8 Speed Transmission??
Looks like next years Stingray will get an 8 speed auto that is supposed to be faster quicker than the 911 dual-clutch. Anyone think this might carry over to the next Camaro?

I wouldn't think so they have the trans axle in the back. Not sure that would be adaptable to the back of the engine as the Camaro is. Maybe they will come up with a similar unit (shared internals) in a different housing. I would think next Gen will be 8 spd heck one of the new jeeps is getting 9 spd.

I could see it in the next gen of camaro. Just like everything else in gm performance the corvette will get it first to then they'll put it into other models.

I hope not.
I mean these new dual clutch systems are wonders of engineering, hewver something is lost when you take out the stick. Manual transmission only, til I die!

Well your manual transmission vehicle will be behind that 8 speed auto at every stop light and 1/4 mile track without a doubt in the world! On a road track maybe you will have the edge but on the street the 8 speed will kill you and get better gas mileage doing it.

One advantage to an all electric Camaro would be no more A6 vs M6 threads.

Funny, these same arguments are going on right now on both the Ferrari and Porsche forums.
I understand the advances in technology, and I have no problem with it. But at the end of the day I still like driving a tru manual transmission vehicle. This will probably be the last vehicle that allow me to do so. In 10 years like it or not the true manual will be gone. The writing is on the wall.

I agree with you 100% It's just that every time I announce to the world on this or any other forum that I like driving stick, Captain Obvious has to try to cram his 2 cents into my buttcrack, Yes, we all know that the A6 is faster in the 1/4 mile thatn the M6 The dual clutch will be even faster, probably. Did you also know that fire is hot? Water is wet? I am not discussing 1/4 mile speeds, I am not discussing dual clutches, i am simply describing my love for driving stick. My love for being just a little bit more in touch and connected to the machine, and my love for being able to feel this connection, my love for being able to drop a gear and INSTANT torque. My love for actually having to do a more complicated series of manuevers when stopped on a hill or racing the 1/4. The at the time terrifying, but now nostalgic memory of at 15, my father setting the emergency brake at a red light in downtown Bel Air, and jumping out of the car yelling "Move over, time for you to learn how to drive a stick, sink or swim!" Even in the test video where they ran the GTR vs the Z28, the tester mentions how awesome the GTR is, but that he feels something missing from the manual that is present in the Z28.

Getting back on track here.....
I suspect there will be multiple variations of that 8speed like with all of GMs other autos. Typically they have a transaxle version and a RWD version of their transmissions. So likely there will be a normal RWD version and it will likely be used in trucks, and cars. So I would expect to see it in the camaro probably somewhere down the road. The article I read said .08 seconds faster than a 911 dual-clutch transmission, which is pretty impressive.

ATS is getting an 8 speed.
Take that for what you will.

So, I found some data that says the '14 911 GT3 PDK can shift in under 100ms, .08 seconds is 80ms, so the corvette transmission will shift in 20ms? I'd be surprised if thats true....

I feel 110% confident that the 8 speed with land in the 6th Gen. The more of something you build the cheap each unit gets. It is in GM's best financial interests plus it will make for a faster car with better fuel economy. Win/Win/Win.
