It's because SCT was originally made for Ford. Now that HPT is covering all of those, along with GM, they will start taking more of the market share that SCT had. They are also just weeks away from giving full tuning abilities to the 2010-2011 LLT V6 crowd. This will be HUGE, given that only two companies did it before and they were very limited in what they could do. This won't make SCT go under but it will hit them hard.

Obviously SCT is not a toy. There is not that much difference between the HPT handheld and the SCT handheld. Both require the full suite to actually tune anything. I wasn't fond of SCT. HPT still pissed me off every time I go to tweak VVE stuff. This thread is dumb.

My 2011 Camaro SS/RS with mods was tuned by Ted and the SCT. I am going to speculate here and estimate that at least 85% of us that do remote tuning with hand helds in no way go in and tweak our own tunes or modify settings as some of us have no expertise in the area. So really why does it matter if you load a tune with SCT or HP or whatever? Really shouldn't it come down the the reputation and experience of the tuners? I take the tuner, connect it, upload it and drive. When I chose my tuner I based it off the forum feedback. Ted is great. I am sure Tampa is too. But instead of downplaying one device, how about uplay your skills and experience in tuning. It doesn't make we want to come and buy from you when you say one product is crap or another. I would rather hear you have used HP Tuners to modify tunes for people to improve XYZ. How about some specific examples of why this tuner is better? Are their functions missing on the SCT compared to the HP Tuner that you need to do you tune better? Is there a feature I could take advantage of? This would be really helpful.

Shall we call it something else then? Technically the SCT box doesn't "tune" anything. It's an uploader/reader/minimal logging device without the tuning suite. It's just semantics... and realistically has 0 bearing on the quality of the tuning platform.

Pretty much. I have had both. I always had a laptop in the car with both interfaces. I saw no benefit of one over the other when it came to logging. I can pull over and make changes with HPT now, but I could have done the same if I had bought the SCT suite. It just came down to who I wanted to buy my toys from in the end.

Expanding on what I said above with the speculated %85 of us Camaro owners that want to take advantage of a good tune, but will never tweak a tune ourselves using software lets look at the costs.

HP Tuner:
$500.00 for the device
$150 for a Tune
Total $650

SCT Device:
$399.00 which includes the device and tune
Total $399

So I am saving $251 that I could put towards another mod to get a tune file to connect to my interface to upload a remote tune. I think if your a person that has those skills, then obviously the HP maybe better. But for the guys who don't mess with the files....SCT is the way to go. Just my opinion is all.

Many like to see exactly what's being changed in the tune. Some tuners will openly tell you what they changed while others refuse to.

You forgot to add extra for everything that isn't intake/catback if you're talking about getting it from JRE.

+$55 for ported throttle body
+$110 for headers
-------------------------------------------
$564

You get a free bolt-ons tune from FSP if you buy HPT from them last time I checked. You can get either platform for about the same out-the-door cost. It's all in who you want to spend your money with.

I bought my VMAX through JRE and the Tune was $0. His price was the same as everyone else as VMAX sets the price at $150 + Core. Plus I saw he is very competitive for header prices and again $0 for the updated tune.

I checked FSP and it was a very short promotion on the first (5) HP Tuners he sold. So it looks like it is the $650. Looks like another great option though on a shop. I do like his website and bookmarked it.

For the %15 that care to see it, or would take the time to understand it, then totally agreed! Its Greek to me!

His website is out of date then. I'm quite sure I wasn't one of the first 5 HPT buyers. I don't remember headers prices being competitive over there, but maybe they are now. Again... it's all in who you choose to spend your money with.

Matt was giving me free tunes with the Diablo and $100 for a cam tune on HP that I didn't even buy from him. Matt is pure class and a great example of how a business should be run.
