If mom is paying the bills -

A)Maybe she's concerned for your safety?
B)Maybe she's concerned her expenses are going to go up if you put it into a wall or someone else crashes into you?
C)Maybe she's worried the warranty will vanish on that car if anyone finds out you're drag racing it in competition?

Do you have the CAPITAL to throw down to replace a motor? Axles? Body damage?

I was where you are now. I get it. But, what you don't get is the other side of the equation and it's frankly impossible for you to understand it until you become a parent. Sure a drag strip is generally safer than street racing, but it is not without substantial risk. You're driving a heavy machine at high speed, and you can't account for all variables like fluid leaks on the track from the prior car, or the guy next to you breaking traction and flying into your lane, etc. - never mind the financial risks your mother is taking on a car she's paying for. Your/her insurance will drop you like a bad habit if they ever found out.

You'll understand it in about 15 years. Be patient. You'll get more respect anyway by racing your own wheels under your own name, rather than going to a track and racing the mommy mobile.

If you are paying your own bills and can afford it - do what you want. Until then, enjoy being a kid without any real responsibilities because frankly you've got the rest of your life having to be responsible.

You could go an formal argumentative standpoint. Create a claim "Drag racing is safe(Example)". Find some type of data to support the claim, "The NHRA claims that 1 in 10,000 cars/drag racers catch fire, mainly due to poor engine maintenance".. "The National Statistic Association says that dying in a drag racing accident is 100x less likely to happen than getting in a car accident on a city road".. Then wrap it up with a warrant. Explain how your data relates to your claim. "Drag racing is actually safer than driving on the road"

I did this to my mom when I wanted to buy a Camaro, laid out the pros and cons. Arguments, counter-arguments, you name it, it was there. All I got was a blank stare for 20 seconds, then a "It's your money.... I guess"... But she was hell-bent on me not getting something with more than 250 horsepower. If it wasn't for this I robably would be driving a Honda CR-Z

*** All statistics were made up and examples were written as clarification. Make sure to do research before you come u with something like this. If you experience an erection lasting for more than 4 hours, consult a doctor immediately.

Point out all the good things about going to the strip. Things like the safety. There have medical personnel on had, there is no other traffic, all vehicles go through a safety inspection before they are allowed to race. And also add in that the cost is very affordable. Most likely it will be under $25, but that all depends on the track and the event. I've see in as cheap as $10 a day on test and tune days. Using the tracks keeps them open. Areas with active race tracks have less issues with street racing, because they can go somewhere to race and not have to worry about cops, or endangering themselves and others.

As for as wrecking the vehicle, the risk of an accident isn't any greater than driving on the street. Leaving the traction control on will prevent spinning the car into a wall. It's a straight line and if you don't spin the tires, staying on the track is easy. Damaging something while racing is always a possibility. The engine isn't a worry. You have a computer rev limiter that will keep you from blowing up the engine. If it's an automatic, it will stress the tranny, but it shouldn't be an issue. The big risk would be if it is a manual. You could damage the clutch. With some of the early 2010 cars there was a risk of breaking a rear half shaft, but Stronger ones were put in later cars, and leaving the nannies on will reduce the torque stress on them anyway, as the ECU reduces the torque when taking off anyway.

All you can do is present her with the facts and hope she can see it as a way for you to safely let out your desire for speed someplace safe and regulated.

1) Please see my post about driving school.
2) If you have to ask your mom for permission, then you shouldn't be on the Camaro forum? Should she be on instead?
3) I've never been to the drag strip with any of my cars....have fun on the street and be safe. Remember Paul Walker - although he wasn't driving, serious s***t happens quick.

(No offence here though)
If you are drag racing you are abusing your car. if your parents bought you the car they should have something to say about it. And it is dangerous. But if you approach it right and get someone who knows what they are doing to help you get started maybe they will change their mind.
