What kind of times to be expected?
Apologies if this is in the wrong place...feel free to move it if needed, but I figure this is the appropriate sub-forum
So I'm going to the track with a coworker soon. Never run on a drag strip before, so it's going to definitely be a learning. I don't expect that I can really run this car to it's full potential (launch, shift points, etc...) but curious to know what a reasonable time would be based on the mods for the car. I figure my first few passes will be terribly slow just so I can get used to going down the track, and then will start trying to ramp up the speed, and get the times down...it'll be running on street tires Specs according to shop that put it all together (510 Racing): 416ci low comp motor (9.3:1, I believe? prev owner was bldg it for an S/C, hence the low comp) cam (unsure of details, but it's fairly lumpy, though not terribly lumpy) Ported LS7 heads Roto-Fab intake Kooks long tubes Corsa exhaust Katech LS9R clutch Factory installed Hurst short-throw the guy at 510 that I talked to couldn't remember an exact HP figure, but he said that he thought is was around 480-490 at the rear wheels. I've yet to have it on a dyno since purchasing it. SO, all that being said...what do you think this could do with an experienced person behind the wheel? How about with a not-so-experienced one, such as myself? |

oh wow! that's hella quicker than I would've thought...though, being totally inexperienced (outside of some occasional spirited driving on the street) I'll be floored if I can break into the 12s on the first trip out
Something to look forward to!Thanks! |

Yeah I would think at least mid 12s. Just need to get some seat time in. When you make to the track let us know how it go's

OP you will need some DRs. I think with practice you can do better than high 11s. In the beginning or with street tires 11s will be very far away.

OP don't get me wrong if you get the car set up and dialed in with some seat time yeah low to mid 11s at that HP. But it takes more than HP to make the car fast down the track.

Yeah, low 12s shouldn't be a problem on street tires.

oh yeah, I'm not expecting low times at all initially...I figure after many runs I'll be more comfortable on the track, but my current level of experience [zero] is such that I'm sure I'll be lucky to have those kind of times anywhere in the near future
![]() Hoping to get out on the track either this weekend or next at CFest! We shall see how it goes! |

Where you are in a manual car and unless you are very skilled, don't get your heart set on anything faster than mid 12's. This car will crush your dreams unless you are on your game in a M6.
Getting quick times in a M6 is a lot harder than in an A6. My PB is 11.80 with a lot more power than you are putting down on street tires.
