Resonator Delete Question

hey everyone I'm just looking for your opinions on a resonator delete. I already have a dynomax ultra flow axle back that sounds dope but i want to know exactly how my exhaust note will change if i got it done. i think some popping on decel would be cool. Also would you do straight pipes or x pipes. just looking to be slightly louder or throatier. all input would be appreciated.

All the resonator is for is to dampen sound, so deleting it will make your car louder. you can either run true duals "replace with pipe" or you can add an x pipe in its place.

I'd recommend either leaving the resonators or going with th x-pipe. A cai intake will mask the rasp of a free-er flowing exhaust setup but it can only do so much. Cherry Bomb Extreme's are deep and create a really nice dull (as opposed to crisp) decel pop. They're about a $100 bucks a piece, and are worth every penny.

I second the cherry bombs, I have a res x pipe, and my stock resonators on, I've been pondering on cutting them out but I haven't came to a decision yet.

I already have a cai and I don't want to go with the magnaflow resonated x pipe because it will make it quieter. The goal is a little louder but not be super raspy.

Well then you've already won half the battle. I personally recommend Cherry Bomb Extreme's. BUT, you'd really want to get j-pipes installed if you went with them. They make the LFX sound friggin hardcore, but this comes at the cost of hardcore drone. The only time I'm bothered by engine drone is when I have a passenger griping about it, so I haven't done j pipes yet. But for some people it's a bigger issue.

If you don't want drone, or to go through the extra cost of j pipes, then I recommend MRT v2.0's all day long.

I started my exhaust mod from the back ,did the SLP loud mouth muffler delete, then went with JBA cats, next was Borla headers that I should have done when the JBA cats were installed(live & learn I guess),last year I put the resonator delete X-pipe in ,By then everything was just about straight thru. I think the x-pipe made the most difference as far as a noisy sound. It was not a nice throaty roar.So after putting up with the noisy not pleasing, sometimes drone, raspy sound,I pulled off the SLP Loud mouths, bought the Borla Atak mufflers and now I have the sound I want.
Looking back, sound wise the SLP Loud mouth would have been enough if I wasn't going for more of a increase in performance.

removing the resonators will make it very raspy, loud, but raspy. if you want to remove them then get a resonated x-pipe to control rasp.

Hey there Tmick,

I actually did a resonator and muffler delete, which was a really bad decision on my part. If its one thing I realized through trial and error is our V6s can't just sound beast like the V8s. Having no resonators made it sound very unrefined and extremely loud in a bad way. In my opinion, it sounded wayyy to raspy. I'd recommend a resonated X-Pipe for sure if you're going to do this.

Currently my setup is a Tru-X Pipe, stock resonators and a muffler delete with 4 inch tips. It sounds pretty damn good. Some but doesn't bother me at all.

I've currently got the Dynomax VT axle back myself. I am looking for a slightly louder and throatier sound while still minimizing drone. I'm thinking about deleting the stock resonators, while also swapping the stock H-pipe for resonated X-pipe.

I'm also really interested in hearing more about this Cherry Bomb Extreme (sound quality, size and fitment options). Is it worthwhile (or even possible) to swap the H-pipe for the Res X-pipe AND ALSO swap the stock resonators for those Cherry Bomb Extremes? Or would that be pointless / impossible to do?
