This post is so demoralizing. That dealer royally screwed me by not telling me any of this. I know it's my job to know, but this is such a random thing that I never expected any V6's to be different. No tap shift, different gears, speed limiters. I knew none of this til today and it just makes me sad. I feel like such an idiot and I've been had. I so over paid for my car and I thought I was actually getting a good deal...sigh.

It isn't fixable though! I'm not going to pay money for new gears and i don't want to void my warranty. I 'suppose' I could always run in manual mode with the limit set to 4th gear as that seems to change the shift timings to shift more in the 5-6000RPM range if you floor it, it seems to have more pick-up. i literally just went and tested all this after reading this post. It isn't the end of the world as I don't need to go over 118, but it's damn camaro for christ sakes!

It's not the "miles per gallon" but the "smiles per mile" that matters most.

I don't want to void my warranty though and I should't have to! How is the cheaper version better? That's insane!

If it makes you feel any better, as far as I know all NON RS v6 Camaro's are speed limited to ~118, not just the 1LS... My 1LT is the same as far as that goes.

Also, a bone stock 2LS is in the number one slot on the Official v6 Fast list @ 13.955...

But, i heard it was due to speed ratings of the tires? i've read so much my brain is probably going to bleed soon. I saw that! It's a female right?

Yes, they are speed limited based on the speed rating of the tires... Only the v6 RS came with ~160ph tires :P

Yes, racergirl is indeed... a female.

You know if you consider the rear gearing of the base V6 challengers (2.65 and like a 2.8something) the 2LS's 2.92:1 doesn't sound so bad. So you know your 2LS can still beat some challengers right out of the box. While the information of this thread would help a lot of prospective buyers find the right car to fit their needs, it is not meant to suggest that the 2LS is an awful car. Is the 7.6" rear end frustrating and costly to replace? Absolutely. And so is the TAPshift nonsense, but it's still a badass ride. And thanks to sites like this the availability of new mods grows weekly, so you can change everything you don't like.

Very true, didn't know that about the Challengers. I'm not insinuating it's a bad car in anyway. Luckily I can still say "I drive a Camaro" it's just lame the Chevy didn't make this known to me otherwise i would have just gone with the LT. Because you can't just advertise "tap shift" when it's not! But yes luckily we have mods I already have exhaust and intake so it's made the car even more fun!

good info, but you are still paying more for a model that gets slightly better gas(+ automatic)..interesting..def need the RS packaging though, imo, in which case you have to go to an LT model.

Yeah, there isn't really decent access to drivetrain information at the dealership. It would be so much better if Chevy offered certain drivetrain parts a la carte. As in you could toss the 2.92 in the 2LT RS if you wanted the RS look but didn't care about 1/4 miles. Or you wanted the 3.27 in your automatic LS. It'd also be nice if Chevy offered an intermediate V8 like dodge has with the 5.7 Hemi.

Sorry, man. I didn't gather this info to make anyone feel bad. My hope was that people would see this BEFORE they buy, to prevent posts like yours.

I agree 100% that GM and their dealers should be informed, and be able to inform buyers about these details. But the reality is they are not or will not or some combination of the two.

As others have said, it's still a great car.
