Hit by truck tire chunk
One of a semi's rear tires blew out about a hundred yards ahead of me on the highway on the way home this evening! A HUGE piece about the size of ME went sailing up in the air and, even though I tried to swerve some to avoid it, it glanced off my right front quarter panel. I thought it was going to be real bad but after looking at the affected area it mostly looks like a lot of long streaks of rubber smudges. HOPEFULLY it is that and will "buff out" but what should I use initially to remove the residue? Clay bar? Something else? I HATE SEMI's: a few miles further down the hwy there was a huge backup because apparently a truck had swerved changing lanes and clipped the front of a car.

I had the same experience happen to me. Shit's scary for sure.
Try a clay bar first. That should clean most of it up. Anything that remains would need to be lightly polished out. Sent from my HTC One using Tapatalk

Hopefully none of the steel cordage from the tire was able to glance off your paint.

I drive truck, we call those gaters.... and they will bite as you can see! Lol.
Just be glad you aren't like some people and ride the trucks bumper because I get that a lot. Just remember, about 85% of accidents involving a car and semi are the cars fault. I hope you just need ti buff it off. Sent from somewhere on the road.

I think I read that some where or was in safety meeting when I was at a large corporate company. But I think it was fatal accidents. 85 percent of fatal semi with car accidents are caused by the driver of the car. Also could be corporate propaganda.

There are a few articles out there.
I found one I haven't read before and its from 1993 lmao. http://articles.baltimoresun.com/199...mber-of-trucks And sorry, it was 81% in this study. http://www.thetruckersreport.com/don...1-of-the-time/ You gotta realize our trucks and the drivers are regulated fairly well. I don't see cars that get random safety inspections or random drug tests to keep their license. Sent from somewhere on the road.

In my experiences cars are at fault more than not compared to truck drivers. Not saying it's 81%, but its above 50%. You find far less truck drivers that are distracted by phone, make-up, children, etc. compared to a "normal" driver. Truck drivers are usually more careful also because that truck is their livelihood.
Either way, I have seen very few accidents with 18-wheelers that don't end bad.
