I reset my average fuel consumption every time I fill up. It is dead accurate when I check how many miles I drive to how many gallons I put it. The most it has been off is .5 MPG.
Currently getting 21 MPG. |

iv had 4 vehicles with mpg computers. 1 jeep and 3 GMs and all were within a 10th of a mpg when calculated by the pump. These cars get amazing fuel milage. Even the V8.

This test is only over about 15 miles... I have a picture of my DIC showing 34mpg and I have a 2LT/RS. Vehicle weight and wheels make a big difference, let alone gasoline octane, road grades, wind... etc.
That said, there's pictures of guys that get the DIC to show 99.9 mpg. So.

Same here, but averaging 19.6 right now in combination driving (about 70% highway, 30% in town). I rarely get over 20 per tank, except on trips when it's almost all interstate. Then I get 23 or so.

In think the DICs are a lot more accurate than people give them credit for. Maybe the early ones weren't as good, but I'd wager it's the most accurate reading for mileage you are going to get. There is probably more variation in the amount of gas you put in your tank when you fill up.
But you aren't going to get any meaningful information by testing your mileage over just 15 miles. There is way too much variation (grade, wind, steering, brake, throttle inputs, etc.) to read anything into those results. |

why do people always say you didnt drive it far enough. If he drives 15 miles and used so much gas then thats what he got. even my V8 could do 29mpg stock if I tried. iv done it more than once. If you give it some gas it goes down. Try driving this car through a tank without giving it some gas. Ya If i drive it legally but like a camaro i get 19-20. If I get on the thruway and set the cruise at 75 I still get 25mpg with 3.91 gears repeatedly. I go by I averaged this much on this trip. You cant include the mileage you get when your having fun with the car.

I do those numbers with summer driving and summer gas.
Your in Cal so you should be able to do that yr round. Winter fuel blend here kills about 5 mpg.

they can be accurate, but sometimes from my experience they can read out on the high side. Example, a buddy of mine has a 14' Silverado 4x4 crew cab with the 5.3. He sent me a picture of his computer showing a read out of 27MPG at 70MPH. I think we all know a Silverado isn't going to get 27MPG at 70 |

Any and all discussion about C5 fuel economy should not be allowed on the forum. This should be a hard set rule, penalized by immediate suspension and a public flogging.
