CEL =MAF sensor after changing Air Filter

Had been doing multiple minor winter projects and once I finally got the Camaro out it started throwing CEL x 3 (reset via battery disconnect). Thought I might have knocked something loose, etc. I finally had it checked and it was the MAF. The only thing I had done was put on a new CAI, Inc air filter. I put my old single digit weak MAF back on, and all is good (so far).

Just a "fluke" the MAF went bad at exact same time I changed filter, or something else? Thoughts.

What CAI did you install? If it has an oiled filter it may have had too much oil in the filter and fouled the MAF. Try cleaning the MAF sensor with MAF sensor cleaner.

Brand new Filter from CAI, Inc; same style I have used past 2 years. I don't "re-charge" filters for this reason and replace every 2 years-minimum.

Did you pull the filter out of the bag and install it immediately? Letting it sit out for couple hours to air dry will let any extra oil dry out. Even new filters can have a little too much oil on them. This step is in the cleaning/reoiling instructions as well but gets overlooked since most are trying to get their car up and running ASAP. Since you have at least two of them now, it would be cost effective to get the cleaning/oiling kit so you can clean your old one now and bag it up for next time. When it comes time again, pull it out, lightly oil it, then let it sit out for a day or so before you replace it.

As said above, MAF cleaner should do the trick. You can find it any local parts store. Don't think i've heard of a stock MAF failing before

They recommend you blot the new filter with paper towels to make sure it's not over oiled. You do that until you don't see any oil transfer to the paper towel.

Yeah, I talked with Apex Chase, and recommended the same. I pulled with strong MAF, sprayed it down with MAF cleaner, let it dry, etc. but it still is throwing a CEL. Re-installed my old "weak" MAF and NO issues. I think it just went bad. My just keep my old one in as it seems to run pretty good and don't remember that much difference when I put in the "strong one". Maybe my old single digit was one of the "good ones".
