If you look at current offerings, it is hard to top the camaro line, SS, ZL1, Z/28, its an impressive lineup.

But overall since 64 I would have to say Mustang

Mustang without question. Camaro has been faster and even sold more at times, but when you consider the overall history Mustang is one of the all time most iconic cars. Like the GTO it brought about an entire genre of automobiles and spurred the explosive growth of car culture. I wouldn't buy one, but the car community as a whole owes a lot to Mustang.

Alot of people dont care for the Mustang II but it was the 2nd best selling Mustang behind the original. The Mustang II sold over 400,000 cars in its first year alone so it defintely wasnt a failure for Ford but for Mustang fans, probably so.

I agree but now days I dont think the Camaro or Mustang can exist without the other.

yup. when the mustang was out of production for a while. the mustang II was also a compact car and not a pony car.

stopping production of the Camaro was not about lack of sales. actually the Camaro\firebird combo was the second best selling cars in it's class. the real reason gm temporarily stopped production of the Camaro was because they badly needed to close the expensive to operate plant in quebec, which had a contract to build the Camaro until around 2017 or so. so as long as they were building a Camaro, they legally had to build it in quebec. the only other option was to cease building the Camaro until they could shut down and dispose of the quebec plant.
