I have a 14 but no smell. It is a convertible and I almost never drive with the top up so that may be part of it.

Like I said, you just need to Beat the Stink out of it.
Then no more smell. Ted.

Mine had the oil smell for the first bit but as others on here have said after some miles it went away and never came back. I also put a catch can on mine as well so it may have stopped it.

I have never had this experience. 16k miles on the car. I have added CAI cold air intake, ported throttle body, and catch can. Prior to those upgrades, no oil smell whatsoever. After, nothing. But i trust Ted. If Ted says drive it hard, drive it hard!!

Had this problem for the 1st time after my last oil change and I have just been getting on it for the last 1000 miles and its almost gone. I have also added a catch can because peeking behind the throttle body i do see some oil laying in the supercharger. I think running it harder burns that excess oil up..

I have this same problem with my 2011 SS. Sitting at idle it just kinda wafts in there. I have no idea how or why. My car is still stored away so I haven't had a chance to try and replicate it this year, and my car only has 1100 miles on it to boot. It is not unique to just the ZL1's

pjm333,
Sincere apologies to read about the burning smell with your Camaro. I can understand how concerning this matter would be. Have you considered getting an official diagnosis performed? I'd be happy to play a role in that process if you message me privately. Kindly, William R. Chevrolet Customer Care |

I've had mine into my local dealer for a smell I thought was burning oil.
(14 Months old 13,400km) My advisor and the mechanic (technician), tell me its excess build up in the cat converter, not an oil smell. When I get on the on-ramp to the hwy, I put it to the floor. A few seconds later is when the smell is bad, really bad. So, they told me to drive it harder. The rev's stay way too low in the auto, so they want me to run it in a lower gear to keep the rev's up. I take a lot of side roads and at low speeds the car cruses at 10-11-12 hundred rpm. He says that's not enough to keep the cat lit up, so I get buildup. Then when I stomp on it, it burns and smells. So, any ideas if he could be right about the cat smell? So far, I've tried keeping the rev's up, and it still smells when I stomp on it. |
