Sad day, First speeding ticket

Got my first ticket in 32 years this weekend in NY State. Just as I finished passing a goof in a pick up truck that would speed up each time I pulled out to pass. Finally made it by but there was a trooper coming the other way and he clocked me at 81 in a 55. Told him what was happening but didnt do any good. Wrote it for the full 81 !!

Your lucky after that admission he could have charged you with a speed contest or racing.

The first two times I went to pass he sped up so I just fell in behind him. He them would hit his brakes and slow down to about 45 - 50. did this a few times until I had enough and finished my pass. He obviously couldn't do it again when I actually put my foot into it. Just a typical jerk that like normal makes everyone else pay for their stupidity.

They do that to just to get you worked up so you will let her rip.

Sometimes you get caught in the moment,been there done that.

Take it to court you might win,say the jerk in the truck was driving onto the shoulder tossing rocks from his tires at your new car.

Besides the cop might not show and thats an automatic win

I'd recommend showing up to court. If the cop doesn't show, congrats you just saved yourself a few hundred bucks, if he does... well you had it coming. I just recently went to court and fought (and won) my ticket for 'passing an emergency vehicle with their lights on "too quickly" '..... anyway, over half the people there got off cause their officer didnt show. Process if you don't go to trial may take less than an hour.

My brother was in college and got a 30 over ticket. Cop was a bit of a dick. Convinced my brother to go to court and just plead to the court for a fine reduction. On the court date, we arrived early and someone else was there and for the same reason, different cop. But the other cop was a no show. Judge asked how they pleaded, they said not guilty and no one to object or anything , the judge accepted not guilty.

When it was mike's turn I told him to plead not guilty, he did, his cop was also a no show. No fine or ticket.

I highly suggest going to court.

the third cop was ....in the pick up...

In bc the cop doesn't have to show anymore. They just send a signed affidavit of there's side and that counts as them being there:(.

lol, I always love these threads about fighting tickets. You get caught for breaking the law, yet people weasel their way out of it by working the system, or complain when they can't. You bought a fast car. Drive it legally or pay up!

You have not committed a criminal act,it is the highway traffic act.

Criminals who have harmed society get their day in court.

So I suppose you agree with the 50k over law?

I personally believe in the charter of rights and freedoms and having your day in court before any penalties are handed out, like licence suspensions or vehicle impoundment.

When your Police become Judge,Jury and Executioner your on a slippery slope to Police State.

No one should be trusted with powers like that.

im actually gonna appear in court to plead guilty for a lower offense and demerit points taken out, i was speeding and it was my fault. like i said i had a bad day and just wanted to get home at that time lol. and it wasnt that fast i was just going 100 at a 60 but yeah speeding is speeding. and as some people pointed out radar detectors are illegal here in ontario. when i got pulled over the cop actually looked inside my car trying to find more reason to **** me over.
