The noise scared the crap out of me two the first time pulling into the driveway. I thought the tire was rubbing on the front fender as I pulled into my driveway.

And I thought my splitter was rubbing... but I couldn't find any marks... You all may have solved a mystery for me

I get this at a few business entrances where I live. My fear is that the one wheel spinning is not good on the positraction rear end. Can someone verify this? I have been trying to have enough momentum to get up the incline, but not too much. It sounds to me like the clutches are being put through hell in the rear end. I hope not!

Hmmm, curious.
It occurs to me this could be less than desirable in autocross or at the track.
Looks like putting down power in or after a tight turn could be difficult. Of course, the surface would be flat, but wouldn't this drastically reduce traction on the inside rear tire? Chassis stiffness is good. Right up to the point where you pull a tire off the pavement, right? Prospective buyer of 1LE for autocross very interested here. Anyone?? Best regards, John |

Had a scraping sound few times and only marks I have found were on the secondary air deflector under the splitter about 10-12 inches back from the front.

This is what happens when you have soft springs and big bars. Compression on one side lifts the wheel on the other side connected by big bar up in the air. Good for ride quality for a given roll stiffness but not good for grip or traction out of the corner. This is why z/28 comes with stiffer springs and smaller bars.

Not to beat a dead horse, but does anyone know if the spinning of the free wheel is hurting the rear end in this situation? Or is the noise the rear brake on the lifted wheel grabbing due to engagement of the traction control / stabilitrac?

My Z4 is also very stiff. I was doing some work on the front brakes and jacked the car up in the driveway. I barely had the front off the ground when I noticed that the back was coming up as well. I think I just went with it and did maintenance on front and back brakes that time around. |

Uh, yeah, the newer Ponys are stiff, too.
This is what happens, when limited by strict rules for stock auto-x, you stuff A6 Hoosiers on a stock suspension. You hit the bump stops, and lift.

A stiff monocoque! It's why our Camaros respond so well to suspension upgrades!
