Why do I always hear rocks hitting my car?!

Is it just me or is this with the Camaros? Driving down any road, fast or slow, all I heard are the impacts of gravel on my car :/ It honestly seems like every few seconds I hear them. Anyone else have this problem? I have rock guards on and a clear bra but still I see the damage of rock hits. What. the. eff!?

Your Pirelli tires are soft and kicking it all up.... check your gills.. that's what they are hitting.

It's your tire compound. High performance = soft and sticky, they pick up rocks like you wouldn't believe.

The only rock I hear when I am driving is Guns N' Roses.

This.

Your tires are both a gift and a curse.

Gift they are made by the company that puts boat loads of money creating tire tech for Formula 1 teams and that tire tech makes it way to the consumer.

Curse that tire tech grips everything.

All of the above plus there is absolutely no unibody insulation in the Camaro.
None underneath, none on the floor, none on the w/hsgs, none on the 1/4 panels, etc...
A tiny bit of upholstery padding but that's it. Dynamat works wonders.

yep those summer tires pick up the gravel, go to a nice all season tire and it will be greatly reduced, know this from personal experience since i had a 2010 previously, I missed the grabbing ability of the pirelli's though!

I feel like majority of the gravel bouncing around is in the wheel well. I don't have as much damage compared to what i should have from hearing it.

I will agree that I just bought a 2014 1,600 miles ago and the sounds of every pebble makes my heart drop. After every wash I have spotted only a few blemishes though. I'd like to think I've been paranoid but like you noticed it seems amplified in the camaro. My guess is the tires like everyone is saying. It's not anything to worry about but I've been keeping an eye out just in case.

Yep, I hear it on mine all the time, but I knew, it's the damn p zeros. I am keeping an eye out on the gills though after every drive.

This is definitely true. *Most* of those rocks are just hitting the wheel wells or splash guards if you have them, even though it sounds like the body is getting pelted.

Wide, sticky tires. Rear quarter sticks out. Those gills were born to take a beating if unprotected.

Wouldn't mind switching - anyone dealt with any tire dealers that trade-ins? I have a 2013 with 1,600 miles on the PZeros and would like to trade on some decent all seasons.
