This feature is helpful when properly executed (my daily driver Subaru has it, and it works flawlessly, assisting when needed, and never getting in the way when it's not) but GM did not do their homework, and as a result, the hill start on the Camaro is absolute GARBAGE.

As far as I can tell, nobody at Chevy tested this feature by actually driving the car. If they had, they would have realized that it doesn't work correctly. The way it should work, as in the Subaru, is to release INSTANTLY when you hit the gas, instead of mindlessly hanging on, which is what it does.

I use the parking brake trick to defeat it.

So, in summation, I love hill start assist when it's done properly. But this GM iteration is pure junk.

so basically it helps the car stay still while you apply the gas?
Dont understand how it causes you to stall.

Please explain! Getting my first manual car!

That's the problem I have too.. Why does it keep hanging on when you give it gas???.. It doesn't feel right..

Ah, good. So what is HSA needed for? I used my manual trans Pontiac while living on a steep hill in Boston for four years, parallel park each afternoon, had to leave the spot each morning. Never hit anyone. Sounds like a nice option if you're uncomfortable using the e-brake to help but it seems like something that should be an option to me.

meant the other person.
But yeah, if your wife has any advice on it please share!

Think this hill assist will ruin the experience as a first car being manual?

I can't say what it will 'ruin' but I feel if your car rolls back too much if you're on a hill you need to practice your clutch work, and if you are worried about parking situations when maneuvering etc...that's what the hand brake has been used to help with since before my Grandpappy was born

I hate it, it won't let go. You can sit there and do a John Force burnout for 2 seconds. If it catches you off guard and you drop the clutch too quick, it will stall. They know load, they know TPS position, they know clutch position, and they can even detect lateral G, it should let go when they know I am trying to move, I shouldn't have to sit there and count to two Mississippi before I can move. A Mustang will let you turn it off, GM should have added that 'off' feature also.

I've heard nothing but bad things about this feature. I'm picking up my Camaro next weekend and I really hope this doesn't ruin my experience with the car. I have yet to actually drive a Camaro with a Manual so I have not got to test it out.

You guys are the first people who like it. Maybe it's different for '14, but mine is horrendous. Hafta use the one-click e-brake trick until I get a new yaw sensor.
