Smell / odor

I was coming back from a trip and I pulled over and stopped to text my wife. The car was running and I got a odor / smell like sulfur inside car. 1st time I smelled this, I have about 1000 miles on car.

Any ideas ???

I have to take car in for water leak. Whenever I wash car there is water on drivers floor mat.

THANKS !!!

I usually associate that with the catalytic convertors. Was it under load just before you stopped (like maybe climbing an extended hill or something)?

Somebody's catalytic converter. Probably not yours unless it's now a full time smell. Get out and stand behind it while it's running. You'll know if it's yours

Car smells can be very difficult to describe... what smells like burning wax to one driver might be described as a wet dog or or burning rubber by another. Sulfuric odors could be all kinds of things, but I agree with other posters that the most likely "sulfur" suspect would be cat converter.... and that since yours is very new, and not likely to be malfunctioning, the chance that it was another vehicle is a strong possibility.

However, a car with 1000 miles on it may still be burning off factory residuals... a plastic sticker that's in a heat- prone area, paint overspray, fluid spillage, whatever.

My 1LT smells of hot trans fluid and hot coupling material, generally after spirited, uphill driving. I've had it checked out, and gotten a clean bill of health, including at my 100,000 mile scheduled trans service (which I had done at 60,000 miles). All good, apparently "normal enough" for me not to worry about. I wonder if your issue might be similar?

I was finishing a long trip when I pulled off and just went thru a toll gate and off course went thru the gears

Apologies to hear about the odor/smell. I can understand how displeasing a situation like this can be. Feel free to keep us posted on the outcome of the diagnosis and don't hesitate to let me know if you have additional questions.

I had the same type of smell when I took my car in because of the 2nd gear grind (which they would not on because it's "normal"). They replaced the cabin air filter which had grown mold and mildew on it. Smells like a car now.
