I very much agree. On occasion, newness can be fun and exciting, but no external source will satisfy a person's inner being for long. Without straying too far off topic, a person whose pattern shows a propensity for swift change might consider leasing, but those who are content to keep their beloved vehicle for an age should definitely buy.

This car is the car you want to own. not to borrow.

The car will always be under warranty and when the next gen ZL1 or whatever comes out...you're not stuck with a car you may not want to keep. When the lease is over you can buy the car, or even sell it and put money in your pocket if you did your homework before you signed the lease. Also you don't need GM to lease the car. There are private lease companies that will lease just about any car you desire.

The dealer doesn't decide whether you buy or lease. YOU do. The dealer negotiates the purchase price of the car with you on behalf of the bank (Ally does most GM leases these days, but you can use any bank you want that does auto leases). The dealer then sells the car to the bank c/o YOU and you make payments. At the end of the lease, the car belongs to the bank not the dealer. Again, the dealer doesn't have any say in whether you buy or lease. In fact, I don't tell them whether I plan to lease until after I negotiate the purchase price. If you have secured an allocation for zl1, I'm sure you can lease it. But depending on its residual value, it may make more sense to buy. The fact that its a chevy will hurt it. My Tahoe monthly payment is almost as much as my V with a 20k difference in price.
A lease makes sense for the reasons already stated and does not make sense for the reasons already stated. If you think leasing doesn't make sense for YOU then it probably doesn't. If you own your own business, the payments on a leased car can often be written off as a business expense to a certain extent. |

Good point. I forgot to mention that. I own my own business. So if I lease I can write the car off.

Sadly, I drive a lot more than their monthly limit. I don't want the car to be checked for every freaking bump/scratch that most definitely will happen. It also feels much better when you are driving YOUR car.

Good grief.....
just owning a business does not mean you can automaticly write off a car, or lease payments for that matter. There may be some in very specific situations that can take tax advatages from leasing but for the most part leases are a way for people to get somthing they really cant afford. |

OK. Heres my take on the lease topic. If it is even possible to even find a dealer to lease you one of these rare birds, the premium will be only affordable to the financialy fortunate. Test drives are even out of the question. Hertz isn't getting them to rent, even if they do, don't complain about the price. Vegas and South Beach might have them for such, and I am sure they will, but for UBER DINERO. Let's not fool ourselves folks, people on early lists are going to be hard pressed to get one, and the general public will be even more held at bay to have contact beyond observing one sitting in the middle of a dealerships floor. That whole idea of test driving, leasing, and easily availalbe courtresy delivery normaly associated with mainstream products is going to go out the window. The most realistic reachable expectation of the past three listed will be courtesy delivery. No flak, AAA or Sam's please, too many converations, tea leaves read, and general concensus points to this conclusion. Please folks, don't think you can easily lease one, rent one, or test drive one. Not at least until 2013 I don't think IMHO. Aintgonnahappen.com. Word.

I bought my Transformers edition Camaro with every intent on keeping it for a long time. I'm sure there will always be something bigger and badder than my car. I also know that I can't never drive my car anywhere w/o someone commenting on how sweet my car is. especially when I see kids pointing and screaming at my car, "look mommy, it's Bumblebee! It's Bumblebee!" (I love to see that each and every time.) would I get that same type of attention with a ZL1? probably not. I say that because even though the ZL1 is pure "badassness" straight from the box, it's not that much different in terms of looks from all the other Camaros running around. (this of course is only my opinion.) it's also my opinion to say there has to be a fine balance of looks and "badassness" to any car worth owning. my Camaro does that for me and some. of course this isn't to say that I wouldn't own a ZL1 if it were given to me. It would just be a VERY nice, big brother addition to my Transformers Camaro.

Mine is leased. For me it works. I'll turn this crap in and get a new lease. No trade in worries and low ball dealer games.
I don't care if it makes sense or not really.
