2014 1LS loud howl at idle

I have this strange, very loud howl coming from the engine area when I come to a stop. It seems to only happen when the car is warm (been driven for at least a few miles). For instance, when you stop at red light, or like last night, in the drive thru, after it isles for a little bit, it makes an extremely loud howl. Sometimes it only lasts for a second, sometimes it continues but it does stop. It can happen multiple times while waiting at a red light. It is really embarrassing because it is so loud that everyone around looks T you. I live in Minnesota and it never happened all winter, it seems to have started up when the weather got warmer. Maybe the AC compressor?

Did you try and see if it still makes this howl with the AC off?

I had a similar issue with my ZL1. In my case, it turned out to be a bad bearing in the supercharger.

Sounds like you may have a bad bearing somewhere.

Yes, it still makes the sound is the AC is off.

It can't be the supercharger! LOL

It makes the sound eveytime I stop today, but only for brief moments, kind of sounds like a fog siren.

hypecat,

I realize how displeasing it can be when faced with a loud noise concern like this, and though you're seeking thoughts and opinions, I would be happy to communicate this situation with the designated Customer Experience Manager at your preferred dealer if you feel an official diagnosis is necessary. Feel free to message us privately if you'd like to proceed, or discuss this situation further.

Kindly,

William R.
