Supercharger Help

I have been doing a lot of research on beginning to do mods to my Camaro, but I have a few quick questions about a supercharger kit that I am looking at purchasing. I have been looking at the Edelbrock E-force 1597 kit for the L99 Camaro SS; the kit appears to have everything I should need, but do to lack of experience with modding cars I was wondering a few things. First I was wondering how easy a Supercharger is to install and if it is best to install it myself or take it to a shop. Second question is if installing a supercharger will cause premature wear on the engine and other components of the car. Lastly, I was wondering if there is anything that is not included in the kit that I should install to help reliability with a supercharger system.

If you are fairly mechanically inclined you should be able to install it yourself. I personally believe that no matter who installs it you should have it tuned at a good shop. I noticed you live in Texas and though Texas is a pretty good sized state it has a lot of very good speed shops. If you put out a more specific location I'm sure members will chip in and give you very good advice about your local choices.

Regarding wear, my practical side of me says no significant change, but the pure mathematical part says if you increase combustion pressure and horsepower there must be an increase in wear. I suspect adding a supercharger will increase wear but I don't think the change will be significant, your engine will have a certain life cycle and oil quality and change intervals will have more impact than the power it makes.

I don't know if you are looking for the most basic kit but personally I think there are better choices than the eforce. Just my opinion. Surf around this forum and there is a ton of information about all of the forced induction systems.

I installed an Edelbrock E-Force S/C myself on my SS. See mods in sig. It drives like a daily driver when I need it too. Runs like a rocket when I want it too. I have 27K miles on the S/C. For me it is enough for the street. It depends how much horsepower you want to eventually get.
