Camaro Polishing Sections

I'm not sure if this has ever been mapped out or if it's useful to anyone, but it sure would have been good to know for me when I first started working on detailing my Camaro.

The Camaro is a challenging car to detail, at least in my opinion. It has some massive panels which can really fatigue your back, shoulders and legs if you don't think your way around the car. I have an extremely bad back, so this is especially important for me.

I've mapped out the sections that I use when polishing 5th Gens, maybe it'll help some to know what section sizes will result in optimal polishing performance.

This is by no means a "One size fits all" type of deal, but this is what I've settled into for these cars.

Feel free to post any comments, suggestions, or questions.

5" backing plate, 5.5" buff and shine microfiber cutting and polishing pads. Can't go wrong with them.

Nice, can't wait to see the results. Make sure to take plenty of before and after pics.

Probably will use it mostly for waxing, don't think I have the time and patience foe a complete job, will probably pay a detailer to clay and polish.

Which do you prefer, the dimpled, cross hatch, or flat pads, and why?

Is there any difference in backing plates?

Thanks.

Jim

Flat pads as far as foam goes. Most contact area.

Not really. Just get the correct size.

Your layout is very similar to my style... my sections are a little smaller when cutting and a little larger when polishing. Unlike when washing, when I am on the buffer I move up and down the sections on the car. Keeps me from staying in the same position for too long.

This is actually perfect for me thank you. This is kind of what scared me the most about all of this was how to divide the whole thing up. Will be saving these and using for my first full machine detail.

The roof is divided into four by the way. Just cut in half each direction. Hard to tell from my pic.

do any of you use a 3.5" backing plate and the 4" pads for smaller/curved and hard to reach areas? Or do most people just stick with the 5 and 5.5?
