Hello!
I'm from the UK a thinking of importing a Camaro from the USA. Chevrolet sell an ever so slightly modified version of the 2SS officially in Europe but for an eye watering £36,000/$60,000! (+tax, delivery etc.) That's just silly money. I could save $8000 by importing one myself. Not that'd I'd get the V8 anyway, it'd be too expensive to run. I've decided to go the (semi-)manual route. I buy the car myself without any crazy markups saving me an absolute fortune, whilst getting a private importer to do all the heavy lifting and IVA conversions. Add UK sales tax (20%) + 10% import duty, + shipping via container with comprehensive insurance + IVA conversions to make it road legal + UK registration with the DVLA and it comes to around £21,400/$36,000 for a 1LS (I am but a simple man with simple needs). Considering the extra costs associated with an import, I think that's a halfway decent deal for a fast weekend thrill machine. Since I'm not an American citizen, if I bought the car from a dealership would I still have to pay the State Tax? If I buy a car in the states, does it HAVE to be registered, or can I leave it unregistered and technically "off the road" since its never going to be driven there? Also, the friends I'm visiting aren't car people in the slightest (the most exciting car they have between them in a Honda Fit ) - what dealership would you recommend in the Pittsburg area and what extra fees (if any) do they charge on top?Off-topic question but it'd help! How much CO2 does the Camaro V6 give off? For emission tax purposes I need to know the exact number in g/km (grams per kilometre), but being an American car, I can't find the number anywhere and I'd rather not be stuck with a £1000($1600) per year bill on top of my insurance! ![]() Thank You! |

![]() For the manual, 397g/m converts to 247g/km. So that'll be a saving of £225 ($360) on the purchase price. Not a lot admittedly, but it puts it in a better position. Thank You
