When you lose traction running hard, bad things can happen. Glad to hear you didn't do a lot of damage.

Coolant temps of 240 to to 250 degrees, if memory serves. Brakes? No problem whatsoever. Tires? Controlling pressures was very difficult. I believe track temps were over 150 degrees. How hot was it? The new pavement started coming apart in several areas. Essentially, the track broke before the Z/28 did...

Really awesome to see you guys out there with the cars! A spin happens to all of us and if it doesn't that means you have plenty left on the table..... which is OK to be honest since in the end its about having fun and driving back home in once pc. I span out in the past so bad at some tracks that one the way home I would ask my self what in the world I was doing (one side of track to the other, no joke). It's all about learning in the end, when you learn to walk you will fall a few times.
Any pictures of tire wear? Also, did you guys have to mod the hood etc. to get better powertrain cooling (remove the drain pan from hood vent?) and did you run more water than coolant etc.? Finally, how many laps a session did you guys run and how much fuel (quarter, half tank) did you guys use per session?

![]() It's not often that I get to hang out with both my Camaro and Viper buds in the same venue. Hats off to Zfatuated and brt3 for driving these beautiful Z/28s the way they were meant to be driven! Reminds me of when I first tracked my Viper. No plates yet, just 3 weeks new and I went sideways off of the track at turn 7 of Thunderhill. I shook it off and went back out there and had a blast. Brian (CrystalRedTintCoat) and my friend Rich in his Snake Skin Green Viper ACR rented a house with me nearby. Great to meet Zfat, Brt, the other Todd (Nor Cal ZL1), Kyle (Rornis3), and to see Mark again (Markgws6). There were about the same number of Camaros as Vipers out there. If anyone's curious, here is one of my laps when I had a wide open track in front of me. Looking forward to the next outing! Last edited by Orange Crush 1LE; 06-11-2014 at 03:16 AM. |

Cool to watch. My armchair quarterback says the line the Z28 was following seemed to late apex a lot of the corners. This forced lifting off of the gas, setting up for oversteer, instead of letting the car find its way around the curve with your foot down.

Pretty sure he knows how to drive. I've done the exact same in 3 different GM cars, 4th gen, Z06, and C5. But you can't always just stomp on it if there is too much lateral g's or rotational inertia happening. You ease up a bit and countersteer and pray.

I'd think a tight, late apex would be the safe choice most times, with the first apex of a broken-back turn sequence being an exception. Norm |
