GPI SS3 vs SS2 cams on LS3s

Both cars have the same mods other than the cam. Headers, cai, underdrive, tuning, etc.

Here is an overlay. The SS2 is a little stronger and hangs with the SS3 good to about 4500 rpms, then the SS3 pulls away from it.

Notice the early tq peak on the smaller cam, both have flat tq curves and both carry power past peak hp well, but the ss3 does a better job of that up top.

So, now that we've seen the difference in horsepower and tq. what's the rest of the story?

Is the ss3 just the 'next gen', a further evolution of the vvt technology, or is it harder on parts, requiring more and more supporting mods and walking more from street car to race car?

He said its for LS3. I wonder whats the drivability like between both. What about specs on both?

These are both LS3 cams. Ryan does those as well.

I think it's in response to all the "I want lowend tq" threads that have been popping up.

The SS2 is a 227/241 and the SS3 is a 231/245. I have them cut on different LSA and ICL from time to time depending on what the customer is wanting.

Our SS1 is a 223/237.

They all drive good, the ss3 will obviously have a touch more low rpm cam surge than the other 2 but with good tuning its not bad at all.

Rhino, are those dyno graphs with the convertor locked up? If so how much of a difference to you see between the locked and unlocked converters? I know your 4400 would be a big difference with those in the 3200-3600 range would be smaller.

I love my version of the ss2 and it doesn't drive bad at all.

The ss3 is fine with stock rockers and stock lifters. We use tooley springs with titanium retainers with our cams.
