there is no way they can force you to turn in your key and get the new one. they will send you a recall notice in the mail and it is then your duty to have it performed.

fwiw I tried and there is no way my knee can touch the key unless I slouch down or move the seat forward alot.
I do keep the telescoping wheel just about all the way in so maybe thats why.

looking at the vids, a more expensive but better for us switchblade aficionado's option would be move the switch mounting counterclockwise 90ish degrees so if the fob is jarred it moves to the start position.

exactly. now Audi/VW, Mazda and I am guessing other GM models should follow suit. If they are going to recall one car over this ridiculousness, then they better recall them all

That looks a lot easier to hit than in the Camaro. Oh my God what a death trap!

You know you can also accidentally turn the ignition off if you hit it with your hand. Just look how close your hands are to the ignition when you drive! I think the ignition should be in the trunk for safety.

The thing is this is a voluntary recall initiated by GM, not one ordered by the NHTSA, unless they determine it is a wide spread issue, each manufacturer will have to decide.

And that's what GM is doing , all GM vehicles with the Fob system like the Camaro and installed on the same location will have to come in for service , just like that Camaro

I spent a while today trying to get my knee up there and couldn't even really make contact without really straining my hip so, unless there's a legal issue, I'm not going to do it.
