Camaro SS vs 350z

Hanging out with a guy I just met and his buddy says we need to race. I ask what he has and he tells me a 350. So I said I was good because I knew it wouldnt be worth it. He then tells mw he beats up on 5.0s and STI's. So I ask if he's boosted and he says no. Claims he has everything else ready but a turbo. He also tells me he has no tune.

My next question is what hes running and he claims less than 12's. At this point im not believing crap. Im still not telling him about my numbers and then he says he estimates hes putting down 350 at the wheels. So I tell the guy to get with me next week and prove it to me. He says he doesnt wana take it to the track because it his daily. Well so is mine.

In my head I am gona destroy this guy and his numbers are all made up and the cars hes lined up with suck. Am I outta my mind or completely right???

He is either a huge ricer that was just talking big or he is boosted. He has to be boosted to beat you. My boy had a 350, full bolt on, tuned, running on E85 with a drag wheel/tire combo and he can DRIVE and didn't want anything to do with my bone stock LS3.
Ricers stay talking all the time in front of people and then when its time to put up they are no where to be seen. This guy at work said he had a new Genesis 2.0T with an upgraded turbo and other crap and said he would walk me. Talked a whole bunch of crap and when I brought my SS to work ( I dont daily it), he claimed he just traded the Genesis -_-

Unless he has some serious upgrades, not a chance.

Sure, they weigh 500lbs less but you have almost twice the wheel hp as a stock 350Z. There are a few around here that handle very well but the owners have put twice the cost of the car into upgrades.

I think people get these cars because they feel its just a more affordable version of a GTR. Like the BRZ, they are good for what you pay but not in the same level..

Its also a very iconic car and honestly its hard to find a better 2 seater that performs as well for the price.

Yep, I my experience the more talking that goes on, the more the person is either full of it and/or can't drive.

Watched a kid in a GTR get destroyed by a 3rd gen Camaro recently. Naturally, the Camaro was heavily modded but the kid in the GTR could not drive either. Talked and talked about his car dominating the track and he actually never raced before...lol

Oh yes.

They are a very very good car for the price (the 370Z is even better).

Thanks guys. Im pretty good with guessing what a car will run once you tell me what all is going on with it and every time he said something else that didnt add up to it being boosted I wanted to call bs on it. But I didnt because its more fun to get him to race me and then show him his car isnt all that. I invited him to the track next weekend but excuses started to fly instantly..even with a mutual friend talking him up to convince him to meet me up.

I really hope I can get him to go because Ive been practicing at the track for some time now and I guarantee I will kill that 350. I had the G35 coupe before and that barely beat v6 Camaros. This guy hasnt been on the dyno nor tuned it so theres no way he knows what its putting down. He would need over 400 to hang with me and the only way is boosted for that car. He said he ran high 12s before but when I told him to go to the track and prove me wrong he said he didnt wana beat the car up on the track.

I hate when people talk mess about being able to beat anything and have no proof of their car being fast at all. I didnt talk mine up didnt say my hp and didnt say my track times because thats not me. Id rather see what the driver and car do.

I had a 350z before my camaro ss.. Only way he stands a chance is if he's boosted just like everyone's saying. I had an 06 M6 with a cai and my friend stomped me relentlessly in a L99 SS. Rolls digs even if I jumped the start 100 mph he's 2 busses out. I never expected to win he just got a new ss and wanted to see what she had.

Boost Or possibly LS swapped.. That's the only way but There's several of those out there

Gotcha. Well he said he wasnt boosted yet. Said he didnt touch his headers or pistons or block or cams. So I dont know what he could've done outside of cat back and intake. I had a friend with a completely built 350 motor only and he still wasnt touching anything near 400. This guy must be getting his hp numbers from his butt dyno and 1/4 numbers from outta the same place. Some guys like to try and have car talk until you take it further than car names and engine sizes..anything past that and they struggle to just sound cool

It is possible for a 350z to make 350whp N/A but its cost a shit load of money to do it... I'am talking you might as well buy a V8 and swap it cost. Even on the forums there was 1 350z that made that power and it was a shop car. These cars are even worse boosted as none of them really last. Now I love my Z but facts are facts, these cars are best left stock.

And even with that 350whp I would still highly doubt that car could beat an SS with over 400 out the back unless the driver was garbage. I know a guy who had about that much with his but like you mentioned about the one you knew...his was a shop car as well. He even made it into Modified magazine in 2009

http://www.modified.com/features/mod...4-nissan-350z/

He has since then swapped out to an LS1 block and bunch of other things but back when he had the 350z motor in he wouldnt have tried with a new SS LS3.

Dude,

you go to the Bradenton track, just go for T&T and see what shows up. I guarantee you'll see every variant of 350/370 z cars. I grew up there and have raced there so many times I can't think of many cars I have not seen there. my $.02 you'll probably walk him easily unless he does have some serious mods. I ran a supercharged 350z with my '06 supercharged vette and his 1/4 mile times were like 12.8xxx I was running 11.74 on street tires and a 2.56 rear gear (A6 car).
