2014 2-year schedule maint. question

So, I must have missed any threads talking about this because I was surprised (and pissed off today). I scheduled an appointment for my free oil change. I knew I had free oil changes for 2 years with a limit of 3 or 4 I was told. I said at purchase I'll never get to that many because this is a weekend car. It is 5+ months old and has 2,900 miles on it. I wanted to get the first oil change out of the way. I show up for my appt. and service adviser says GM won't pay for the oil change until it is down to 20% of service life. Mine is at 62% (per the computer). By my math (could be questionable) I can't get my first oil change until the car is about 11 months old with 6,000 miles on it (at the current rate I am driving it). I can't imagine guys that have to park it over the winter and use it on weekends only, who knows how long it would take them.

So, my question, is the dealer not wanting to do this oil change or is GM really not giving you the oil change until you get to 20%?

BTW, the service adviser had not heard of the Camaro Key Fob recall.

The dealer is correct and your oil life monitor factors all of that in. 10 months or whenever your OLM says change oil soon. You may choose to change it sooner but the dealer will not honor that because GM will not reimburse the dealer if they do free oil changes outside of the preset guidelines.

this^^ use it or lose it. I had mine changed at 700 miles and they're going to do it again at 4000 miles. after that I'm going solo.

Got mine done at 3000 miles with. No problem. They know I'm a tech and know better than this 5000 mile b.s.
And really, what does it matter to them? They keep up with them and when you use all of them, its time to pay or do it yourself

You also don't have a 14 with two years free oil changes.

someone's dealer is fibbing. I was told by my advisor I had 4 to use in 2 years and I can change it to my hearts content. and I did that and I'm scheduling another one next week. that's 2 oil changes at 4000 miles free from a chevy dealer in Southern California. And I'm not some VIP or someone important (easy on the eyes though) to Chevy and I don't know the people at Chevy personally. just a regular Joe Shmoo. if you want, I'll give you a copy of my service invoice and dealer name.

I won't let my dealer touch my car after what I saw when I changed the oil myself. On the previous oil change at the dealer they left an old gasket in the filter housing. I couldn't believe what I found when I removed my filter. It is a shame the techs at the dealer don't take a little more pride in their work.

I was at 4500 and 7 months on my 2014. I called Chevrolet themselves to inquire. At the end, they did contact my local dealer to approve the "early" oil change. Sucks I had to be the squeaky wheel to get it done though. Dealership didn't want to do it without them being told to.

Nope, their dealer isn't fibbing ... It's suppose to be at 20% and your dealer may end up not getting reimburse for it.

Now I'm confused. Some of you with 2014's are getting your free oil changes and some are having the dealer hold to the GM policy (Of, which I haven't seen anything in writing limiting to an oil service life). Maybe it's is Dealer specific. The one I purchased from in Folsom might be a little less customer friendly???

I guess it is what is. YMMV. I'm sure my dealer doesn't like to give anything free to anyone - because after all they're dealers.

One person with a '14 who says otherwise is not "some". The majority have said what I said.

"For most 2014 vehicles, Chevrolet, Buick and GMC dealers will complete an oil and filter change, four-wheel tire rotation, and conduct a 27-point vehicle inspection based on what’s called for in the vehicle owner’s manual maintenance schedule and oil life monitoring system."

GM's 2 year or 24K miles service.
