OP should look for a different service center. I run into the same situation with Cadillac. 4 years maintenance = 8 free oil changes. Service adviser said they get reimbursed for 8 no matter when they occur in that 4 year period.

My car only sees 3,500 miles in 6 months which puts me ~ 65% oil life. They change it every 6 months without question.

What dealership do you use? I'm at 600 miles and looking to do my first one.

I have 7000+ miles on mine and have had the oil changed 3 times for free from the Dealer once at 1500, once at 3500 and another at 7000. I have not heard anything about not being able to because of the oil life monitor. I wouldn't want to go that long at least on the 1st oil change.

So, it can be done. Dealer specific it is clear. I don't have a good dealer. I have contacted Chevrolet by email to see if I could get any action from them. Tried to call but waited on hold for 10 minutes, got tired of waiting.

BTW: they aren't very responsive by email either. I sent it yesterday. I'm a little disappointed with the customer service.

Its not Chevy or GM specific. My other cars Ive had dealers tell me this as well...has to be at a certain mileage or percentage. I had the car itself giving me an oil change reminder and the dealer refused saying its an auto reminder at 5k, but the oil was technically good till 10k (synthetic). Its a PITA to deal with as they are super slow at changing oil and getting appointments can be a PITA if its a high volume dealer.

But its something you have to put up with if you want it free! Or be the squeaky wheel!

OK, Squeaky wheel may have worked. GM/Chevrolet called me today and asked about my "oil change problem." The person on the phone asked me to hold while he called the Service Manager. He came back on, put the Service Manager on and I have an appointment Friday morning for my oil change. SM said that his service advisor was misinformed. He apologized, I thanked him. It will take two trips to the dealer, one Mon and one Friday, but it will be done. Based on my mileage usage, I will only get one more change. I'm not doing the second one at 3,000 miles. Good to have two free. After that, I'm a do it yourself guy.

Thanks everyone for your input. It's good to hear from others. You let me know that they "can" do it for free.

Glad you got your situation straightened out. But let's be honest with everyone and stop calling these oil changes "free". They are not free, you already paid for them in the purchase price of your vehicle. They are "included" or prepaid but they certainly ARE NOT free.

If you run a product like AMSOIL you can get away with leaving the oil in the motor for long periods and not have to worry about the oil not performing after long periods of time.

look at the Zrod oils.

It is 5+ months old and has 2,900 miles on it. I wanted to get the first oil change out of the way. I show up for my appt. and service adviser says GM won't pay for the oil change until it is down to 20% of service life. Mine is at 62% (per the computer). By my math (could be questionable) I can't get my first oil change until the car is about 11 months old with 6,000 miles on it (at the current rate I am driving it). I can't imagine guys that have to park it over the winter and use it on weekends only, who knows how long it would take them.

So, my question, is the dealer not wanting to do this oil change or is GM really not giving you the oil change until you get to 20%?

BTW, the service adviser had not heard of the Camaro Key Fob recall.

No doubt about that.

Some will say (most people I work with) are you crazy paying that much for a car? A gas Guzzler at that! But to each his own! It is one hell of a car! And, MY GOD, is it fun to drive!!!

Thanks Chevrolet....It is a small price to pay for the performance!

Yes, between the Feds slowly squeezing the life out of US automobiles via CAFE standards and the safety nazis now taking over, one has to wonder how much longer Chevrolet will have a performance division. I'm glad I got mine (AFM free) while the gettin' was good.
