That would be nice It will resolve the issue with the knee hitting the key.

I'm sorry GM, that key looks like you didn't even try. Looks like someone just said "Ah, what's in the parts bin today?"

I'd even pay a portion to get a push button installed.

VW has had the switchblade key for years and no one has had any accidents, I thought the other gm cars ignition problem stemmed from to much on the key ring, so separate the key and have the fob hanging down? Sounds stupid to me.

Two different issues.

One is the torque specification in the tumbler being too low where heavy keyrings and other keys can knock the ignition out of "run" position. This is the big issue in the Cobalt recalls right now

The issue with the Camaro is that the switchblade keyfob has been determined to be in too close proximity to many taller drivers' knees. The driver could knock the key out of the run position by hitting the key itself.

The switchblade key on VW's is a different manufacturer and the ignition switch is different, and also the placement on the column and distance away from drivers' knees are much farther.

Ok, thanks for the info. I am a short person so hitting the key fob isn't going to happen and I am not doing the recall, I will always leave my spare at home.

I was expecting a new fob and a sperate key and I was pissed about that... An empty looking fob plus a key is even worse! Who decided on this at GM?! Really?! Talk about GM not giving a shit.

However, I've yet to receive a recall notice. My Equinox uses the same type of key and I haven't seen anything about a recall for that.
I read in another forum that in order for Chevrolet to do the recall, and give you the redesign key, that you have to hand over both sets of keys and proof of ownership. Not sure if that has changed
