Ordered my Camaro's first mod!
I ordered an Apex Elite catch can, which seems like a good investment. Any tips regarding installation, or is it fairly straight forward?
It's for the 2012 LFX V6. Any other suggestions for mods that are not performance, but more so about preserving and prevention? |

Apex has a reputation of providing excellent step-by-step instructions with their products so, fear not. If you are just moderately mechanically inclined you can handle it.
GREAT first mod, by the way. Should be everyone's first mod - especially V6 owners. Protect those engine internals from the crud the PCV system wants to put back in the engine.

EDIT: Found a good thread on here that explained (well, debated) ported throttle bodies. I could still use a manufacturer suggestion. Last edited by NJScorpio; 06-26-2014 at 05:22 PM. |

The throttle body (TB) is that thing at the center front of your engine that the air intake tube goes into. TBs have taken the place of carburetors, more or less. With these direct injection engines, the TB is responsible for adding the proper amount of air to the intake "manifold" (for lack of a better term) and disbursing it to the cylinders to mix with the gas for combustion. The factory TBs on both V6s and V8s are sub-standard (in my opinion), although they meet the design specs so... too bad for us. The Ported TBs (PTB) have been computer bored and smoothed for maximum efficiency of the airflow feeding into the intake manifold. These cars love air and the less resistance the air meets on its way into the engine, the better the throttle response when you punch your right foot down. OP: Google it for a good description at Wikipedia. Members: if I have not explained this properly, please correct me. I was just trying to keep it as simple as possible.

I installed an Apex CC on my 2012 LFX. I opted to mount the can on the drivers side of the bracket. I also bent the bracket a bit to gain clearance. On the left it contacted the ECU. Test fit before cutting lines.

Apex is a great catch can. Installed it on my 2014 2LT at 700 miles. Fairly easy install. Do a search and there should be a link with an excellent video that goes step by step.
Regarding ported throttle body, does anyone know if it improves MPG at all? Everyone talks about the improved throttle response but I figured that since it moves air more efficiently, wouldn't that mean slightly better MPG as well? |

Thanks for all the replies guys.
I had a funny thought. I bought my Camaro Certified Pre Owned, 12k miles on it. What if someone already ported the throttle body? Is there a way to tell without taking it off and looking inside? There didn't appeare to be anything done to my Camaro prior other than window tinting all around. Perhaps they removed mods before sale, but, I've seen (body wise atleast) many modded Camaros for sale Certified Pre Owned at my dealership. |

I'm sure thousands of owners have done this mod and I have not heard of one instance where it was ever an issue regarding warranty. Since the PTBs are simply re-worked original equipment, there is no outward appearance difference between the two. No offense to GM Techs, but I doubt they would even notice or think twice even if the intake tube was off and the spiraling was visible.
