it's not safe it can be very bad, there is a reasion that in all service manuals it tells you to clean all oils and protective films off of the rotors when doing brake jobs.

Will this happen to my Camaro in Alabama, where its also very humid?

What can I do about it?
I live here in Bama. Hey Brother greetings from home.

I park my car at night and when I come out in the morning there is a full coat of orange rust on the rotors. Happens overnight. It's gone before I get to the stop sign. Only problem is it leaves a bit of orange crap on my shiny rims.

But it's perfectly normal.

Surely you've had to wipe it off of your M-16 after a night. I know I did in Kuwait and Iraq back in 91'

Damn dude, you're right!

I just finished putting a generous coat of Johnson's Paste Wax on my rotors, but now that I think of it, I'm just gonna take the rotors off and dunk them in a bucket of WD-40!!!

All you guys are gonna be jealous of how clean and shiny my rotors stay

Good to see brothers on my favorite community

I guess I had nothing to worry about after all
I've only had one car and it wasn't a sports car or one with brake rotors showing through the rims, haha.

The Camaro is going to be the love of my life, I can't wait to get to Alabama.

You could have them cleaned and phophate coated but that would entail some hefty dollars and does not completely prevent rust.

Or go to carbon ceramic ones ...

Very clever. Lubricate devices that rely on friction. He should have consulted with Mr Wizard before he sprayed his brakes.

I think using the brakes and friction will take care of those pesky rust spots.

Just dont overheat them once they are back in use. Warpage is cool for a Starship, but not so much for a brake rotor.

<geeks unite>

PS - the WD40 thing is for rotors OFF of the car, not on! :-o

I washed my Camaro today, the rotors had rust on them within 10 minutes of wetting the car, and the rotors were not hot.

It does seem like they rust up unusually quick on these Camaros, oh and my water is softened too. I'll bet they cost an arm and a leg if you had to replace one.
