How do I get text messages to work

I have a 2014 1LT with RS package. I have the my link but don't have navigation. How do I get text messages to come through? I've paired my iPhone 4s but my manual says there's a text message box but I can't find it on my car.

MyLink doesn't support text. Not in the sense that you can simply pair any phone and get text messages. The support is provided by the phone itself, the radio is just an interface. I've only seen a few references to texting working, and one of those phones was a Windows model.

I know it doesn't work with Android. I'm not sure about ios (Apple).

You have to flip the "show notifications" option on under the bluetooth device you are connected to. After that the app should initialize the next time its connected.

It only lets you see the messages when you are not moving so its not that helpful

I have a Windows Phone. When the phone is connected and I receive a text, I get the option to either listen to the text or ignore it. If I chose to listen to the text I can then either close or have it call the person.

I don't recall having to configure anything specific on the phone or Mylink other than pairing the two.

Have HTC One (Android 4.4.2). Text messages work fine. Pop-up will display, if moving I can listen or dismiss as well as send quick reply from built in options. If stopped I can read/reply/dismiss. Works great so far. '14 with Mylink and NAV. Paired via Bluetooth.

Haven't tried with the USB cable. I just use Bluetooth and it has worked great. I have the Google Play music subscription so use that app for listening to my tunes. Have a few albums saved on the phone for times without data connection but most of the time I'm streaming the music. I've loved it so far. Can leave phone in my pocket and MyLink will start the tunes where it left off as soon as I switch to Bluetooth. Will allow you to skip tracks using the touch controls. Still have to pull it out of pocket and use the phone to select a new playlist or album though. Typically I just make sure I've got something queued up before I get in.

I'll test out the USB this evening and report back.

Thanks it only finds one song on the phone. It's cool that it loads the art but will not play any of my other music.

I checked music through the USB this morning. It played fine but was taking forever to index. I didn't even put that much on it so why it was taking so long to index I'm not sure. Tracks played fine though and I was able to skip through tracks without a problem. Didn't have that much time in the car (only 2 miles to work) so the indexing could have just not had enough time. I'll check on that during my road trip this weekend.
