I never had an issue with the temp. readings. It reads the same as the actual temperature as soon as I turn on the ignition.
It sounds like they changed the sensor. If not it (sensor) could be bad, have your mechanic run a diagnostic test on it. Try what was posted and check the sensor that there is no debris on it an it is mounted correctly. NEVER ask a salesman a technical question! Nothing against them, just had to many friends who were them!

When parked in my carport the temp reading agrees with the thermometer on the house. After driving a while it usually agrees +/- 2 degrees with the temp on bank signs, etc. After being parked on a sunny day it will read quite a bit higher than actual, but will settle down after a few minutes driving. If it is located where a previous poster said (in front of the radiator) it will absorb a lot of heat from the radiator and AC condenser until driven a few minutes for outside air to flow across it.

You're very welcome. However, the air temp on my car is never spot on, doubt anyones is, and I don't really care, hot and cold is something I can feel pretty easy.

Obviously you are either not married or have an unusual wife. Most wives I know obsess over the outside temperature, including mine.

Thank You.

Actually it was one of the maintenance guys at the desk that said it takes half an hour to read right.

Mine requires about four minutes of driving... until then, it will sit on the last temp displayed the last time it was driven. However, at around four minutes of being in motion, mine with tick up or down fairly quickly, and settle on the perceived temp within about one more minute.

And mine is pretty damn close to reported temps in the area. Matches my household thermometer and radio/ Internet reports of outside temps within two or three degrees.

If it was just a maintenance guy who just does oil changes etc. and cleans/details the cars and not an auto tech, and not a parts salesman, then his opinion is as good as a salesman, almost, since some do interact with the techs.
The most mine is off is a few degree's, but corrects itself after driving a about 5-10 mins, good luck, hope it doesn't become a RECALL! LOL
just kidding! you could position the sensor at a better location also.

I haven't noticed the temperature gauge behaving strangely on my Camaro.

On my Corvette, it follows a pretty consistent pattern. When I start the car, it reads the ambient temperature fine. For example, if I am in a cool garage, it will read the garage temperature. When I start driving, it will continue to display the garage temperature for a while before it suddenly changes to the outside air temperature. For example, if it's 67 degrees in the parking garage but 85 degrees outside, it will stay on 67 until after I drive for some time.

The amount of time it stays seems to be very dependent on how the car is being driven. If I am in stop and go traffic, it will stay on the garage temperature for a really long time. If there's no traffic and I can get up to speed, it only stays on the garage temperature for a few minutes. Also, it seems to make a difference whether the outside temperature is warmer or colder than the garage temperature. When it's warmer outside, I see the above behavior. When it's colder outside, the temperature gauge seems to adjust almost immediately, no matter how the car is driven.

My software engineer conclusion is that there is some logic being applied to try and prevent the gauge from reading artificially high temperatures from under the hood and that it's trying to determine airflow to the sensor based on speed. As I said, this observation has been on my Corvette, but I'm guessing that my Camaro does something similar, but I just haven't noticed it. The Corvette is a convertible and when the gauge reads 20 degrees cooler than the obviously hot air I feel with the top down, it's pretty obvious. In the Camaro, I've got the A/C running and am not as likely to look at the outside air temperature gauge.
