Elite Engineering Catch Can Installation Question
I have been lurking for years but finally joined the forum and am making my first post due to a question about installing a catch can. As background, I bought a 2 LT new in 2011 and traded it for a new 2014 2SS/RS last April.
Does the belt/pulley tension bolt have to be torqued to a full 50 pounds after installing the catch can bracket? Should I have used the locking washer on the bolt? I installed an Elite Engineering Catch Can on an LS3 motor. Figure 3 of the instructions says to torque the belt/pulley tension bolt to 50 pounds but I was afraid of stripping the threads so I never got to the full fifty pounds. The bolt feels way tighter after I put it on then it did coming out. Also, I noticed the locking washer after the installation was completed and it was not included in the instructions. Am I ok not using the locking washer and not torquing the bolt to a full 50 pounds? ![]() Dennis |

If they recommend doing that, then I would do that.

I agree but my concern is that I may strip the threads before I hit 50 pounds of torque on the bolt. Also, the lock washer was not included in the instructions but was provided. I am hoping that somebody who has done this mod can weigh in with some advice. I am not the best mechanic but I know what it feels like to strip threads and it feels like I'm almost there. Thanks.

I would think you should use the locking washer that was on there, unless the instructions specify "Do not reinstall locking washer". Also, as stated above, if it say "torque to 50 psi" I would certainly do that.
Or... contact Elite for clarification: sales@eliteengineering.com I looked at the install directions on the site and they are a little sketchy. Better contact them to be sure.

I'll check my manuals to see what the torque should be.

Are you sure your Tq. wrench is accurate? I recently found out how much of a PITA it is when a Tq. wrench does not function properly.
