It depends on how/where you use your car but in general you will see a 1-2 mpg reduction. These cars have 2 overdrive gears so it is nothing like doing gear swaps in older cars.

Yea I have a El Camino with 3.73s and 350 tranny and I would not want my 5th gen camaro to have the similar rpm range. But like you said these cars have 2 overdrive gears oppose to none in my 350th

Are there any 3:70's that are equal or better to OEM gears for durability, longevity and quietness that you would recommend? I think this would be a better all around gear ratio for an A6.

Yea I'm kinda torn between 3.45 and 3.91 for all around purposes.

I'm looking at bumping up to 3:70, have a manual trans.
My feeling is a 383/350 turbo with 3:73 is just street able, nothing more, but have 6 speed should even it out.
Thoughts?

near stock power level definitely do 3.91's... makes a big difference... i highly suggest staying OEM gears, meaning AAM factory gears, like 3.27, 3.45. 3.91... the factory AAM gears install great, always easy to get the correct pattern, and always quiet...

It feels like it has more power, not like it is working harder. At cruise you just get used to it, acceleration you remember.

Lost about 2 mpg but I drive like I stole it.

3.91s have been fantastic in my A6 L99. In the city its really gets going with minimal effort. On the highway, its just motors along around 2300 rpm @ 70.

Now, I have 402 RWHP -- we'll see what happen when I get closer to 500
Probably need some DRs or new wheels by then ;o)

Yeah I'm doing about 2300 at 70 on the highway with 'em.
