Waking Up After 700 Miles?
Ok, going to sound newbie here and I am. This is both only my 2nd V-8 (last one over 16 years ago!) and first manual trans in a while (over 10 years ago) that I have had. Not a newbie to Camaro history nor muscle car stuff, but never had the chance to get one until now.
Anyway.... I am right around 780 miles driven on Christine. The last few rides she seems to be "waking up". Shifting is getting smoother and pickup has increased. Not sure if if just took me this long to get to know the car and drive it better, or get past the break in time. Just seems to me the car is getting better every day. I have used the button and have seen some similar sentiments, but I figured that was baloney. What has been your experience?

Everything's getting broke in. Gears have some wear to where they are settled rings are to the point they aren't going anywhere. Consider it the start of the teen years the car found it's legs (and balls) and is ready to go hit on hot chicks at the mall.

I'm at 5400 miles and still waiting for mine to wake up. If she sleeps to long she will have to find a new home.

On AutoMagic transmissions: Since 2000 or early, GM has been putting "smart" controllers in some their auto trans. It "learns" how you drive. If you drive aggressively, it adjust clutch times and pressure accordingly. If you drive gently, it does the same.
Not sure if the Camaro got the treatment. It is a very well known issue with the Allison automagic. As far as break in? Yes, cars tend to get meaner up until they blow. Your fastest ET's will be the day you grenade it.

Yeah, don't think this applies to a manual transmission. My Camaro had 28k on it when I bought it so no clue. However the last 2 new cars I bought including my wifes 2014 wrangler, after a few thousand miles it did start feeling stronger and fuel mileage got better. It's a manual also, so no weird auto transmission learning going on there. I think like the other guys said you'll notice after about 3000-5000 miles it gets better.

So true. I had a 2010 SS with 46k and it ran damn good. I bought a 14 1LE with 14 miles on it and it seemed slow and quite lame to be honest. BUT I ran it hard from day one and have 5k miles and it is better off than my 10. It pulls harder and has better handling all around because it is a 1LE.

4,200 miles and I never felt anything "wake up" or improve with more miles.

43,000 miles on her, and she still runs like she's 21,000 miles.
