So what is the average time start to finish? Is this an all day Saturday project or a couple days. How hard is it to get that dash out?

It depends on how good you are with this kind of stuff. If you had no experience at all with this kind of stuff(like me), i would recommend starting it on saturday, and if you are struck anywhere not knowing what or how to do, you will have an extra day to work with.

I hope to do the entire conversion at once. color hud, color DIC(if possible), my link conversion with nav and backup cam. Plus I would like to update my dash with the leather inserts. At least that way I wont ever have to pull out the dash again. Not at least until they come out with some crazy new hologram HUD or something in a couple of years!
It will be easier to do this than having to convince my wife why I need to replace all these things that work perfectly well now! She is way too practical and has no sense of adventure. She has never been a car person and just does not understand the need to mod!

Just to be 100% correct here: all you have to do is swap the old HUD unit with the newer style and everything works normally? My car is at the dealership (2011) with a bad HUD. If I can get them to put the newer one in I want to be able to tell them it'll work with confidence.

Looks like someone is going to get a new color HUD. I hope you can talk the dealer into getting one unless you decide to do it yourself.

Do you have any updates on this?

I will be adding the color HUD to my car (a 2011), but I want the color DIC too, and don't want to pull the dash twice.

Is it any clearer than the 10-13 HUD?
