I recently met someone who works for a tow company that also repo's cars, and was talking to him about all the stolen Camaros in the area.

He was saying that its very very unlikely that they are being driven away. And also unlikely they are being towed away on a flatbed. Quickly dragging a Camaro onto a flatbed would damage the car and would cause attention to themselves. It would also take a while with a flatbed, running the risk being caught by the cars owner. Making it more difficult if the car was in a spot with other cars around it.

He said they are probably being towed away by a tow truck that picks up the car by the rear. I forget what he called it, but it has some claw looking mechanism that gets lowered onto the ground and pushed back even with the rear tires. Then comes inward, grasps the rear tires and lifts the car up. Then they drive off and when a safe distance away, they strap it down. And I guess it can be done in cramped spaces.

He did give a few suggestions to make the car harder to tow away.
- Back into spaces that have no spaces behind it. Like an island, trees, shrubs, or walls.
- Back into spaces like the one above and an island to one side. Park as close as the island as you can.
- Turn you wheels all the way to the left or right, then lock the steering wheel.
- Make sure the parking brake is correctly adjusted and on a tight as you can get it.

While nothing to fool proof if someone really wants to steal your car, might as well make it as difficult as you can for them.

My 2SS Stolen and Later Found Stripped

Ran into a clown out here in Vegas a while back and while talking cars he wanted to know if I would know anyone who wanted ls2/ls3's compleat motor and trans. He could "get them" for 3k. It's a shame that all the work and money you put into a car is stolen and sold of for pennys.

I thank all of you for the outpouring of condolences and suggestions. This is my 3rd Camaro
having owned an '82 Z28, a '94 Z28, and until last Friday, the '12 SS. Interestingly enough, the '82 Z28 was stolen in Oakland years ago. Regarding this occurrence, I also had a locking device on the brake pedal...yes-yes the device is useless. I have been visiting Chevy dealerships in San Leandro and Reno. A salesman at FH Dailey in San Leandro described how he returned to work one morning after three SS-es were stolen and the theft was recorded by the lot's cameras. Apparently, there were at least three men who entered the lot and went directly to the SS-es. One man used a hydraulic jack and raised the car while the other two placed coasters with caster wheels under each tire. The men then pushed the cars, one-by-one to an awaiting big rig and with a cable pulled the cars into the back of the trailer, closed the doors of the rig, and drove the cars away.

someone in the dealer section has GM credit and will apply $1500 (max for a 14 Camaro) for only $1000
