It really depends on how hard you drive it during initial mileage. If you get on it, then most likely you will find metal shavings.

What's to say if you continue to drive hard after the 500 mile change that more will not be produced? Are you going to change after 1000 miles, then again at 1500...?

For the people that downgraded to regular oil. Good job. Its recommended by GMPP, other sites, and engine builders alike that you should run regular oil the first 1500~ or so miles. And yes, I know the SS comes with synthetic But I'm jsut sayin.

I found a spiral aluminum shaving the size of a dime when I was transfering my oil from my first change to a disposable container. It was caught in my funnel, and all the containers were new, it came out of my LS engine for sure. For real, the size of a dime

As for oil changes GM recommended for the C5 Coevette to wait 10,000 miles before switching to synthetic oil. The first C5's and Porches' came from the factory with synthetic and were developing blow-by because the syntetic was so slippery the piston rings were not getting a chance to seat in the cylinder. A good mechanic will tell you the same thing. 10,000 miles before switching will allow the rings and cylinder walls to create their own finger print, much like bullet does in a gun. The oil ring is the one that needs it the most.
Corvettes still come from the factory with Mobil 1 in them.
The Corvette oil spec is GM 4718M and conventional oil does not meet the spec.

You'll get some metal particles from the cylinder walls as the rings seat in. I changed my oil at about 500 miles and there was metal fuzz on the magnetic drain plug.

I just changed my filter at 1200....this thing holds 8 qts of synth oil! thats not going to go bad in 1200!!! your just wasting money and resources....but some just like to have a piece of mind...I can see that I guess ... I've Been in the buss for 20+ years though and have seen it all!!! Filter at 1000/1200 is a good idea and full oil changes at 3000/5000 Depending on City/Hwy use....

There is a tsb about the metal shavings. I guess when they put the engines together they aren't too worried about metal in the oil.
