Here is the thing: If GM ignored the potential that this could end up hurting someone, and then someone got hurt, the world would be crying out, "Shame on GM for not doing a recall!" You know, they're damned if they do and damned if they don't. Give them some credit for having business sense.
That said, I won't be having mine changed out,.. but that is my option.

At one time my 2012 wouldn't start with the key :(
After a few tries it worked. This was during the first year of ownership - since then no troubles starting the car. I'm a tall guy, but I don't ever hit the key fob with my knee :( For my key there is nothing else on the fob, on the backup key there is a light weight wrist band. So no reason for me to do the recall. |

I did 2,500 miles over the 4th of July weekend with the death key and survived.
