Question is what does it get when the battery runs out?

Internal gas motor pops in to make sure that doesn't happen. Hence why it has an MPG rating for an electric car..

Neither will the Volt in 5 years.. if anything inflation and lowered cost of production would make them equal players in the 28K base range.

Already planned on ordering one. I'll run an extension cord between my other 2 Chevy's and park it in between.

"at least 230 mpg" They are gonna be high$$$$ at first but they will drop in price and most likely gain how much mpg they get in the coming years. This is huge for GM!!

Here is my question, in the event you don't drive very far, you are still gonna have gas in the car. The same gas being in the tank for such an extended period of time can't be good, what happens when you don't exceed that 40 miles for a 5 - 6 month period? Then that gas is just sitting there, gas can go stale just sitting there right? (Honest question, I don't really know)

A prius doesn't run 40 miles on electricity or have a highly advanced drivetrain.

The car's smart.

It'll run the ICE every so often to make sure the gas doesn't go stale.

If GM can pull this off (and quick enough), it could regain a whole lot of market share.

This will probably be my daily driver when I finally join the ranks of the real world.

They were talking about the Volt on Neil Cavuto's show on Fox, and i gotta say he acted completely stupid. Then he brought on a guy from the fox business channel, and he hates the volt. I think these guys are oblivious that CAFE standard was set. They had the attitude as if GM just built the thing in the last month to appease the Government. The other guy, Bolling i think , claimed GM has been promising to have the Volt out 2 years ago. Then Cavuto throws out "didn't that type of battery cause fires?
Good grief.

That's what happens when you have people who don't know jack**** about the automotive world pretend like they do.

There was some other silliness on CNBC yesterday. Lutz was being interviewed, and he arrived by helicopter. Then the suits in the studio started in with " who paid for that helicopter?" The field reporter is telling them it's His copter..."but who paid for the gas? the tax payers?"

the prius is such an over inflated POS. ok.. it gets 51mpg... aaaaaaaaaaaaaand? the VW Jetta TDI gets 58mpg. and costs less.

the Prius hybrid technology utilizing dual drive setups, (one electric, one gasoline) is wasteful compared to the volt.
The volt does use a gasoline engine, yes. but it doesnt drive the wheels of the vehicle, it only powers the generator that in turn charges up the batteries that move the vehicle. meaning that the engine can run at its optimum efficiency for fuel conservation as well as power output. 90% of all gas burned in automobiles is during acceleration.

this car kicks ass. even if it starts at a base price of 40k.... you can get 7500 off. which brings it down some.

but some people bawk at the $10,000.00 price tag of the battery. look at the life expectancy of the battery itself. whos to say that by the time the battery does die out that a more powerful and cheaper replacement wont come out. the advances in battery technology have been making leaps and bounds over the past decade. no reason it should stop now.

and the car was a transformer....

the volt gets a HUGE from me.
the prius gets a HUGE from me

I'm CamaroSpike23 and I endorse this message.
