Question What is this?

So while looking at the 2SS over the past couple of days, I noticed something on the front grill and I couldn't identify it. I asked the sales people and they couldn't give me an answer either (I'm sure it's something simple).

It's some kind of square thing that looks like it should pop open....

I would have used the search on the site, but I didn't really know what to call it lol

It's for a tow hook that the USA versions don't have. One guy around here made one, although it was a bit involved.

So I spent the last few minutes trying to decide whether you were joking or being serious lol....I think I finally decided you were being serious

A tow hook on the front of a Camaro just sounds like a joke that'd be made in a Mustang forum heh

All the european cars have them. Look at the front of a BMW or Mercedes, you will see a little square in the bumper that pops open for a place to insert the tow hook.

It is in fact for race tow hooks instalation, there should be another hook up behind the rear plate as well (at least there is in the 1LE).

Usually there is a threaded hole behind thats cover. My old bmw you could mount a liscence plate to it. Then you would have a removable licence plate.

What?! Lol. I know for a fact that bmw has factories in the US and im sure mercedes does too. Plus who would tie down a car with 2 straps on one side of the car. Its for a tow hook, as it states in the bmw and mercedes manuals. They arent for towing really, its for pulling you out of a ditch etc. The point of the hook is to remove the guess work so that some tow truck driver doesnt yank your bumper off because he hooked it in the wrong place.

Doesn't matter. All 2014 and newer SS's in the U.S. have this, including mine. Not sure about the other models.

Thanks for the info on this. I wasn't sure. There's a notch at the bottom of the square where it looks like you insert something like a key to apply pressure to pop it open, which I didn't do. It's funny that the sales people that I asked were not even aware of its existence much less its purpose.
