I finally got my car Friday. So Sunday was mod day for all the stuff I had purchased while waiting delivery for my factory order. A few real life issues different from the instructions.
But first, the product is very well packaged. Nothing is bouncing around and they don't spare the bubble wrap. That a good indicator of the attention to detail. Every piece is high quality. I was amazed at how tight the airbox fits to the engine compartment. Issues: -my MAF didn't want to come unclipped. No biggie, just unscrew and remove the whole thing. -pay really close attention to the instruction to relocate a wiring harness before installing the Airbox. I rerouted it completely away by unclipping it's connection and taking It around the other side of the metal line there. -like many, getting the lid into proper position is a PITA. I tried for a while then had to stop and rethink it. The fitment issue is when you get the right side of it in the gap between sheet metal, the front side doesn't want to fit under the rubber molding on the front edge. There almost needs to be a small step down right at that change between sheetmetal gap and rubber gasket. After lots of gentle persuasion failed, brute force got the job done. I pounded it in the with the base of my hand. The screws go right in once it's aligned properly. The end result is that it is solid as a rock. Post Script: I have since learned that if you loosen the mounting nut, pull the airbox back a bit, the lid will fasten easily. So put the lid on then tighten the box down. This tip would have saved me some aggravation. The end result is what counts and I've got a great cold air intake.

It was fun. I have spent the weeks waiting for my factory order by spending money with you C5 vendors. Here's the engine bay after CAI and Rx catch can and clean side separator connected to your intake pipe instead of the OE vent line.

From the other side, clean side separator plugged into the CAI intake tube instead of the OE vent line. When vacuum is lost at WOT, this prevents the oily crankcase gases from reversing out into the intake as will happen with the OE setup. GM supplies an OE unit with the 1LE only. Only problem is, it is ugly plastic instead of beautiful billet, custom painted GM body color and the OE separator is empty! The RX separator is filled with media to condense out the oil in the vapor where it can fall harmlessly back into the valve cover (where it belongs) instead of getting pumped into your intake tract. Keep the inside of that beautiful ceramic coated CAI pipe nice and clean like it was designed to be!

Oh, the car...Those are gray "Full Length Indy Stripes" option DTA. How do you rotate these pics?

I got a 2013 2SS 1LE and I am ready to make a purchase on a CAI. However, I am not sure who can sell me one. Also, I keep reading how everyone is getting air scoops with their CAI. What does the Air Scoop benefit and is it easy to install? I assume it is directing air to the intake. Sorry that I am not that technical when it comes to motors. Does the Intake come with an installation guide or is it pretty self explanatory to install?
Also, can you tell me what CAI part number I need to look at getting? I appreciate your help in advance! |

Go to the V8 forum then look at some of the sponsors websites. You may find one $25 lower on CAI and free shipping. CAI has two part numbers: one black and one silver like mine. I've read the scoop ram effect may add 2-3 HP but you have to cut the radiator shroud and relocate the windshield washer reservoir. Not worth it to me. You will ultimately need headers to really maximize engine breathing (HP).

Many people choose to install a washer bottle relocation kit and a scoop with our CAI, and various testing has shown it can add a few HP to the CAI Set-up. Its an optional thing and not required, you'll still have a great system without it. Our system is very easy to install, and will include a set of color photo instructions. It is a 100% bolt-on and requires no additional modifications. If you have any other questions let me know

Thanks for pointing out the sponsor's section and answering my questions. I am going to research the cutting required for the scoop. I do think I would like to relocate the washer bottle for cosmetic reasons and fear of it leaking at some point down the road.

I get mine on Monday, can't wait to get it on the car. Then as soon as I have a couple hours I add headers too. I've heard a set of headers and CAI works wonders.

Had it on my previous V6 Camaro and it was producing power even in the worst summer conditions here that any intake can go through world wide !!
Thats why I decided to go for CAI.inc again for my new V8. I ordered it again from JRE. Waiting for UPS ding ding
