2014 BRM ZL1 $4K Over MSRP
I've been thinking seriously about moving up to a ZL1. I searched local inventories and I found a 2014 ZL1 at a dealer near me. I'm a huge fan of Blue Ray Metallic, even more so because I've not seen that color on a ZL1. I went to look at the car and needless to say it it awesome! It's got navi and Recaro's and the sticker is just under $60K. I noticed a small slip of paper on the dash that had an additional $299 for etching and a $4K dealer markup bringing the total to just under $65K! I'm starting to see 2015's popping up so it seems that would give the customer some bargaining power but apparently not. It really bummed me out. I can't see paying an extra $4K to line the dealers pockets. I'm going to call on Monday and see how solid they are on the price but I have a feeling they aren't going to budge.
Have any of you guys/gals noticed dealers marking up 2014's in your area? Just curious if this is a common practice for a ZL1 or if the dealer is trying to squeeze as much profit out of this car as he can.

To be honest, I've seen reductions of almost 10k on '13s when the '14s were coming out. I wouldn't pay over sticker on a car at the end of its' model year. Good luck, keep looking around. Don't be afraid to look out of state if you have to.

a lot of dealers use that as a bargining tool. I have told more than one sales manager they are losing sales by pulling that bs. Most of the time they deal down like most but for some reason it aggravates me to see them pull that stuff. One of our local places puts a mark up on everycar from a base cruze to a stingray.. I told the sales guy when I was checking out the stingray I would not buy from them since I can drive 30 minutes away and don't have to see a "markup" sticker on the car.. He quickly told me the sticker does not mean anything and they will deal..lol I think they drive away a good portion of customers by doing this.

Just makeup your mind what you will pay for it and tell them that. I tell those dealers I am tight and I will drive 200 miles to save a 100 bucks and it usually works! Like it was said do not be afraid to drive to another dealer out of state if you have to to get a good buy.

@big dave - That's what I was thinking, they'd be more willing to deal below sticker to clear the 2014's off the lot. I definitely will not pay more than sticker. The Chevy site shows a $2000 cash allowance for the car, I would expect at least that and maybe another $3-$4K knocked off on top of that.
@JackalopeZL1 - I agree with you, I would think it would drive people away. It makes me think twice about dealing with a place that's pulling shenanigans like that. It makes think they are shady and out to take advantage of people. Not a good first impression that's for certain. Thanks for your input. |

The anti-theft window etching is my favorite. I won't shop at a dealer that tries to pull that one. I asked a salesman one time how it benefits me when you can see the serial # through the windshield??? He said if the car is stolen an parted out it helps identify the car parts. I said " so what,I get my f**king windows back! I don't want them" and walked away

You should be paying invoice on a 2014 now that the 2015s are out.

Window etching is a scam, plain and simple. I got employee pricing on mine, plus GM Loyalty and additional 750 for something else and no document fees.
