Feel lucky if yours doesn't have skip shift. I yell at my car "I don't want to go into 4th!!!" everytime it happens. Then I say "Looove Youuu" after I yell at her.

I also learned to pause in neutral for a sec till I can get into 2nd.

It's funny, in my 4th gen I was forced to do the skip shift constantly....in this one, I think it's only engaged once. Must be some weird combination of the powertrains and how I drive.

I've been trying to tell you guys for a while now that you will hardly notice it as it hardly forces the 1 - 4 shift at all in 296.

It's all in how you drive and what you have to drive around....i.e. slow traffic ahead.

I couldn't stand it so I had my mechanic order one when he got my Flowmasters and I had it installed in less than 5 minutes and now, no more issue.

FWIW, mine come on a lot initially.........probably me getting used to the car.

I know. The DIC rarely indicates skip shift, because of the way I drive. So my point is that even though I have the skip shift eliminator, I can tell that even if I didn't it would rarely try to force me to 4th because of my driving habits, and that may be the same thing the OP is experiencing.

I rarely get the skip shift. About the only time I do is if I'm going from gravel to paved road going extra slow so as not to sling the gravel.

As i said, drive the car on a Long island commute with traffic... Its maddening. I gotta get the eliminator asap! (and I'm an idiot for not getting it already having owned 2 skip shift cars before that i eliminated immediately).

Yes you are blessed. Ive driven cars with skip shift and it very annoying. I love going thru all the gears in a manual and skip shift sort of ruins it

It was pretty slow going on the streets of Sturgis doing Rally week so it happened to me a few times ....Seams you gotta be pretty easy on the pedal to have it happen

Did some more tests last night after I was sure the car was up to temp. Did some slow rolls with just enough throttle to keep rolling. Same as before, can't make it engage. First to second - slow shift, fast shift - still no skip shift. I'm wondering if there is something specific about this unit that is malfunctioning. At this point I'm chalking it up to luck and forgetting about it. If I can't make it do while I'm trying, I know I'll never experience it with my typical driving habits.

Well, I spoke to soon. Let my wife drive the Camaro to work yesterday then took it out last night. I don't think I changed my manual shift driving technique in my sleep, but now the thing never misses skip shift. Took a short drive and I'm miffed. IT HITS EVERY DAMN TIME. Now I can't keep the rpms or first gear speed up high enough to keep it from doing it. I guess I'm going to have my mechanic question it now. Something weird is going on. It's like once it did it the first time nothing is stopping it now.

isn't the 1st to 4th skip shift "feature" on all camaros and vettes? as far as i know, it has been this way for quite awhile. i know a guy who has a 1990 corvette zr1 and that even has the skip shift.

as far as i know, that simple "feature" is how GM currently avoids the gas guzzler tax. at $1300, $30 for a skip shift eliminator is WELL worth the money.
