Motortrend Hellcat vs ZL1

http://www.motortrend.com/roadtests/...r_srt_hellcat/

It's about what you'd expect. Hellcat faster, ZL1 more well rounded. The Hellcat wins because more people look at it than the ZL1

Wow, more people looked at a lime green new model car that has just hit the streets vs. a silver Camaro that has looked the same for three years now. That's shocking!!! The Hellcat is a cool car, but is what it is. A one trick pony throwback to the late 60's Detroit muscle, not an actual performance vehicle made to do every style of motorsports as well as possible. Not that there's anything wrong with that, LOL. Fun to have one of them in the garage along side the zl1

The Hellcat put down 635/591 and the ZL1 put down 472/482 on K&N's dyno.

Sounds about right considering the Hellcat has like 40% more boost pressure and larger SC than the ZL1.

Wonder what type of dyno K&N uses?

(might be the same dyno that says an oiled air filter will gain 25hp on a Honda civic? )

People say the Hell Cat won't handle but I'm sure it'll out-handle the majority of the cars on the road. I think there are far more people who would appreciate it's light to light power over it's cornering potential. From what I read, it pulled .92 G on the skidpad. Not too shabby for a 4500# car imo. Either way, I hardly see ZL1s on the road so I'm sure the hc will be just as rare.

The whole article is a little silly to me. In the past, they gave the victory to the ZL1 over the Shelby because, even though the Shelby was faster, the ZL1 is more well rounded. This time, they give the victory to the Hellcat because it gets more attention. Makes perfect sense.

The Hellcat is badass for sure, but I'm not jumping in line to get one.

Just wondering I see your 1/4 mile pass almost 11 flat. What kind of HP are you putting down with a ZL1 to run hellcat like times?

there is no doubt the Hellcat is bad ass. But it is more expensive and not THAT much faster than the Camaro in the 1/4 mile. We all know the ZL1 would destroy the Cat on a road course, I would love to see a comparo of these on Willow Springs. I think overall the ZL1 is just better, and pick a rally yellow instead of silver and it might just turn as many heads as the crazy green Dodge. I love the fact how they mentioned that it took yeeaars for Dodge to finally get some skin in the musclecar game. Only problem, I see, is while the Camaro and Mustang have evolved to be complete well rounded performance package, the Challenger is still just a 1/4 mile beast

The mustang doesn't handle much better than the Challenger. Believe me, the Challenger will be way faster than the ZL1. I'm not trying to knock the ZL1, but the power and the look is what drew me to the Camaro, not it's handling.

The ZL1 is yesterday's story so no love now. I do see a lot of Blue Ray love on this thread though.

wait you think you the Hellcat will beat the ZL1 around the likes of PIR or Willow Springs?

Silver is the worst color for "showing off". Unless you get close enough to see the small details, a Hellcat looks like a regular Challenger. The ZL1 is way more noticeable from farther away. Horsepower is an easy fix also. Doesn't take much to get mid to high 600's rwhp out of our ZL1's.

The "easy to add horsepower" argument doesn't really hold water. Yeah, it's easy to get more power out of the ZL1. It will also be easy (once they crack the tune) to get more power out of the hellcat and you're already starting with more.

Why doesn't it hold water? The Hellcat is using a bigger blower with more boost. I want to see what rpm they are spinning the Hellcat blower and what it's max rpm is. I have a feeling there is more power left on the table with the ZL1 engine than the Hellcat engine.
