Yea but since these oil pumps are crank driven this is the only way.

Great write-up OP! I've been using it for my currently ongoing cam install. Waiting for my springs/gaskets/spring compressor tool to arrive today. I noticed your TDC positions seems different during the instructions. Here is a pic of what I am talking about.
![]() I would assume the below is correct. I am assuming two cylinders can't be at TDC at the same time. - Cylinder 1: camshaft dot at 12:00 o'clock/crankshaft dot at 12:00 o'clock - Cylinder 8: camshaft dot at 1:30 o'clock/crankshaft dot at 3:00 o'clock - Cylinder 7: camshaft dot at 3:00 o'clock/crankshaft dot at 6:00 o'clock - Cylinder 2: camshaft dot at 4:30 o'clock/crankshaft dot at 9:00 o'clock - Cylinder 6: camshaft dot at 6:00 o'clock/crankshaft dot at 12:00 o'clock - Cylinder 5: camshaft dot at 7:30 o'clock/crankshaft dot at 3:00 o'clock - Cylinder 4: camshaft dot at 9:00 o'clock/crankshaft dot at 6:00 o'clock - Cylinder 3: camshaft dot at 10:30 o'clock/crankshaft dot at 9:00 o'clock Last edited by motogplvr; 06-09-2014 at 12:59 PM. |

Robertway...just wanted to personally say thank you for this DIY. Took me 4 1/2 straight 12 hr. days, but with your instructions and my tuner a text message away, I swapped cams and had 0 issues at start up. So far 500 miles and no sight of trouble at all.
Thanks for this truly awesome DIY. |

something that should be put in bold is to remember to lube every cam surface as you put the cam in. i got stupid and lubed the whole thing then didnt keep lubing. i got all the way to the 2nd to the last bearing journal when it started to get stiff. i tried to get it back out but it got stuck. i shot oil in the holes on both sides and lubed the front bearing alot used a qt of oil getting it out. I hope i didnt damage it.

I just wanted to thank you for this DiY. With this I completed the job.
JCunnigham - I had no issues whatsoever installing the cam but I did lube it up as I was installing it.

Thanks tremendously for this DIY.
![]() I'm currently doing my install now. The car is apart, but the cam isn't in yet. I've managed to get the dual springs installed (working at a snails pace). It's tough to get quality time with "EREBUS" when you have a nagging wife and two rug-rats tugging on you from all sides.........

Wow. Best DIY write up I have ever seen. Wonder how much different this deviates from my L99?

.......I went to every store in central Arkansas........none of them had a tool to fit the LS3 crank snout (M16x2.00mm) nor did any of the big name retailers have the blank rods to make my own tool.I just bought one off of eBay and should get it by Friday. It puts me behind another week...............
