Anyone have to add Friction Modifier with Redline Diff Oil?
I hate the idea of having to keep throwing my car on the lift in a "trial and error" method of finding out how much friction modifier it needs when I change out the differential fluid. So much so, I'm tempted to just put the overpriced GM crap back in it.
I read that some folks needed friction modifier with both Royal Purple and Amsoil, despite that they allegedly have it already in their fluids. Seems to be inconsistent, which is exactly what I want to avoid. I thought about just adding one ounce of FM on original change to be sure, but I've also read that adding the FM when not needed will cause the diff to not perform correctly. Anyone have to add for the Redline 75w-90 (which supposedly has the FM in it already)? Thanks in advance -- I know this subject is an old one. |

Mine is a 2014 SS with 6M. Forgot to mention that.

OK, I'm reading all these threads about early diff service. I get early engine oil changes, not so sure about manual trans and diff. Owners manual says 45,000 for the diff in 2014 and that the GM fluid requires FM. What's the argument for such early changes? Why deviate from the OE recommended fluid/interval? I am asking about street only usage.

Yup. I will probably do it early but let the dealer service it while in for one of the included oil changes. I'm at 4500 miles. It shifts and runs great. No complaints so far.

My rear is a 3.91 rear in an auto with 15k on it (the car has 26k), filled with royal purple and half a bottle of GM friction modifier with zero issues.

2014 2SS/RS M6 here. Changed the diff fluid @ <>1K miles with Amsoil and ½ bottle of the Amsoil FM.
No chatter, no problems. My 2¢ |

Let me help clear things up.. adding a little modifier is not going to hurt anything. . Not having enough will cause the diff to chatter.
So don't get hung up on the fact that you may be adding some. My recommendation is that you add half tube to the rear diff.. this assuming you get the amsoil |
