Hot Rod Drag Week
I was lucky enough to get one of the 300 spots this year before they sold out in 8 seconds! My Father and I have been working all summer trying to get our BBC Chevelle ready, but like most father son projects we had too many beers, and not enough funds, so we decided to use the back up car!
Yes that is a trailer behind a ZL1, let's keep this thread positive, no haters please. Anyway we drove from Tampa to Memphis today without a hiccup. We will be running in the daily driver class. I will post updates on the thread as the week goes by. I don't have any delusions of winning, we just want to have a good time, and meet up with some good friends. If you are in the Tulsa area feel free to stop by and say hi!

I would be interested in the trailer part, since you can drive your car to the track now! I know they said you shouldn't pull a trailer behind it, but I would think a small trailer might be ok. You should show how you did it!

Awesome! Show us more pictures of the trailer and setup.
At the Super Chevy Show last month they had Larry Larson and his 66/67 Nova and a few of his friends running. Those cars are just ridiculous and amazing! Larry drove his to the track every day. That thing ran 7's at 8,500' DA and he drove it in the same way I drove my ZL1 in. Craziness! |

I believe larry built an S10 now that he is taking to this. Looks pro mod and should be super fast! Can't wait to see him run.

I'll post up some pics of the hitch/trailer setup when I get back to the hotel. I went cheap and light with the harbor freight. It seems to be a popular trailer option here! Today was test n tune. The best I could muster was a 12.2 at 119, couldn't get my 60 ft under 2. I recently switched from drag radials to slicks, these things are hooking up so good that it bogs even when I launch at 4000 rpm. Tomorrow I'm gonna throw in the race gas tune, and hopefully get into the 11's!
Here's me in a cloud of smoke!

So here are some pics of the hitch/trailer setup. I chose the valley hitch, it requires some modifications since the 2 bolt holes underneath the battery don't line up at all. So we welded a piece of angle iron across the back, drilled one hole in the center, and bolted it through the center drain plug under the battery. So the hitch is only held on by 3 bolts. We drove 19.5 hours towing a fully loaded trailer, through some bumpy ass back roads in Alabama. No problem. The harbor freight hubs were cool as a cucumber cruising at 70.

12.12 @ 115 today with about a 25 mph headwind. Got my 60ft down to 1.81 today, but missed my 2-3 shift. We edged up from 49th to 44th place! I'm just happy to be ahead of the 2 GT500's, they are running 12.6's. I know these times suck, but it's a whole different ball game when you pull up to the line, in front of a ton of people, and your listening to David Freiburger critique your stick shift launch techniques! And you only get 2 or 3 chances!
Its been a blast so far, I would highly suggest it to all of you. Especially trackman, he would represent us well, and plus there are a ton of people who drove down from Canada. The triumph is a ford 2.3L SVO turbo from an '87 thunderbird, supposedly 396rwhp. He is daily driver as well, he's a few spots in front of us with a average ETA of 12.0
