Hmm, I had expected for them to find something more "dramatic" I suppose, but this does make perfect sense. Hopefully they find out that why your ECM took so long to learn, and use that to provide a fix to others that may need it.
Note to self... only top tier 93 octane when I get mine ![]() Quote:
Neat idea, I wonder if that would work? You'd have to make sure that no one put some bad gas in your car though. |

they probably just copied the high octane map to the low octane map. LOL don't use low octane you'll prob be knocking like crazy. JK. Sounds like the PCM was stuck on the low octane table, it is supposed to only revert to that when the normal timing in the high octane table is causing too much knock.

the newer cars do have different software in the ecm, i just read a vin# in the 31,000 range and 4 of the 8 ecm segments have newer software versions, the trans segment is the same
and this car is way faster with no break in miles than my 10,000 vin car

Very interesting. You're probably not the person to ask but can people go to dealers and get these updates?

1) have a grasp on what you are doing with HPTuners 2) get it tuned by someone who does 3) Run the highest quality 93 you can KR is there for a reason, it stops Knock... Turn off the knock sensors and do this with jacked up timing then yes you will have a problem. The stock Hi Octane spark table will be conservative enough that you should not have to worry about WOT KR anyway unless you actually do run 87 octane. |

Another thing that worries me, what about those of us who live in regions that don't carry 93 octane?

You see, this is one of the things that makes me wonder. But how do we know ANY gas is true to the rating given?

Hell, here in Tampa all gas stations are pretty much that 10% ethanol stuff. 93 octane though...and in all honesty I'm not feeling much of a penalty for any particular brand of gas. I always get 93 though *shrug*

yeah, guess the pcm has a learning disability. They make a pill for that.

I'm guessing someone left an extra zero or two in the timeout parameter in the stock tune. But yeah, typically cars need to be tuned to take advantage of a higher than intended octane rating. I've heard that the stock tune on the Mustang GT doesn't do any better with 93.
