In Canada can not import or sell a car with an outstanding recall. Don't plan on selling so ignoring the recall.

I can't even knee the key if I tried, and I prefer my switchblade... so I'm ignoring it.
Remember this is a SAFETY ISSUE...so if you don't do it & have an accident the insurance company might have a reason to refuse the claim...IMO

any actual data or evidence to back that up or are you just guessing?

Either way, I don't plan to have an accident due to inadvertently turning my own car off, I've got too many years and miles driving professionally to panic in a situation like that.

So if I'm sitting at a red light and someone hits me from behind, then takes off, my insurance will deny my claim because I didn't have the recall done?

If I'm driving through a parking lot, not paying attention and someone backs out and in hit them, my insurance will deny my claim?

If I'm driving along and an uninsured drunk driver hits me, my insurance company will deny my claim?

No matter what the accident, they have to prove by any reasonable doubt that hitting the key caused the accident. For me, its physically impossible. It will never, ever happen. I have a better chance of being struck by lightning in a cave two miles underground while holding a winning lottery ticket bought by Abraham Lincoln at the corner liquor store.

Lets make this clear. It is NOT a safety issue. It is a politically motivated solution to a problem that does not actually exist. If there was an issue with the driver being able to shut his car off by some stunt, they would have relocated the ignition lock to the trunk of the car where the driver truly would not have access.
I spoke to my dealer just moments ago. You do not have to have the recall performed! They ask that you sign a form to demonstrate that as your desire. The form also allows GM to sign off and show the recall as having been performed. That eliminates the issue with an open recall preventing a resale going forward.

They do not track recalls. They do not track if you had them done. They will not deny your claim. They will not raise your rates.

I took my recall notice to my local dealer. I singed a work order refusing the recall. I was given a letter from GM clearly stating that if I changed my mind, I could have the recall performed at any time in the future. Simply tearing the recall letter up will likely show as an open recall on the car. Some states will not allow a car to be sold with an open recall. Signing the work order closes that recall notice. Just keep the letter from GM regarding their promise to perform the recall at any time later.
